World Cup a good thing

The Rugby Union World Cup presents an opportunity to see real competition internationally in the sport/concept of 'rugby', be it league or union.

I think we should get behind it - I've had it argued to me that the international game is dead, and it is. Thankfully I'm a fan of Australian sport (except AFL and Soccer which bore me to sleep), and I'll be watching all of Australia's Union matches in coming weeks/months.

I adopted the anti-Union attitude for much of the past few years, but in the past 12 months I've made an effort to understand the game - and it isn't a bad game in actual fact.

It will be an exciting spectacle - a spectacle that League can't match because Australia is too darn good and no-one else wants to play the game.

Good post Chook. I'll be following it pretty keenly too and agree with your idea that any exposure of either rugby code to the AFL-dominated states is positive exposure for both games. If this can get new fans to enjoy the basics of rugby football, principles that exist in both games, then there's a good chance it'll help boost interest in the only top rate Rugby premiership in Australia, the NRL.

There will be some shocking results but there will also be some good games coming up.

I am looking forward to:

Aus vs Arg - Should be a good game and have actually picked Arg to win.
SA vs Samoa - I think the Island boys get win this one.
France vs Fiji - These two teams play similar styles and again I think that Fiji can winon the day.

Wales vs Canada - Canada can win this one, the Dragons have lost their fire over the last few years. It should be a good game.

And there are other games that involve the minows playing each other that I am keen to see. The Ones like Eng vs Grg are going to be

the only reason why particularly the bottom nations are closer in yawnion is because they were amateur for 100 years

whilst GB and AUS have been pro in eague for many many years and hence are better than other nations

international league is not dead it just need more pro nations

international yawnion is hardly any better and we will come to see this in the yawnion world cup

eng and nz are the only teams which stand out in terms of professionalism and class

So the Australian Union side is unprofessional and lacking class? All the league players who were sorely outclassed by Wendell Sailor, Mat Rogers and Lote Tuqiri can't be too professional or classy either then I guess?

I dont think anyone on this site has stated that Union is better than league its just a different game with different skills.

Though I do agree League needs more nations playing in a higher class comp at the domestic level to strength league. With a lack of corporate sponsorship these days I cant see many countries going professional though which is sad.
