Record Breaker

Batley Scrum Half Barry Eaton broke the world record for the highest number of successful consecutive goal kicks in the dying minutes of The Bulldogs game at Rochdale. Barry has now kicked a total of 36 goals in a row, beating the previous record of 35, and not having missed a kick at goal since June 22nd. Congratulations go to Barry from all at Batley Bulldogs for this remarkable achievement.

No gee-up.

I'm not so sure of this one.

Not the 36 he kicked but the world record of 35 was for top grade games.

If you include all lower grade games, I'm sure someone, somewhere around the world has booted more than 36. Maybe in Brighton Seagulls under 16s.

Who can confirm this?

Yeah I just heard that.... Just when Hazem equaled it... someone else beats it... which is good as records are meant to be broken.

I thought he looked like a pretty ordinary kicker when he was at Widnes last year
Good on him though, great achievement.

I'm thinking the same thing; but 36 goals in concession is a hell of a lot of goals without a hiccupp. Think about it...

I'm not sure, but I think Julian O'Neill kicked enough consecutive top-grade goals for South Sydney in 1997 to beat the record (at the time!), but it didn't count because he had missed one goal in a reserve-grade match during his sequence. Going on this it looks as though all grades are taken into account.

His 36th goal was his last kick in that last game so the record is still open and could end up 40+....
Poor old hazem only had the record for 12 odd hours...LOL :-({|=

The record wont ever be touched again in Australian First Grade Football.

Anyone could do it in another nation - or in a lower grade with no pressure.

They could kick a thousanddd in a row but until they come over and do it in the best competition in the world I won't be convinced they have the wood on Hazem/Halligan

The Fremantle Roosters Rugby League club in Perth West Australia has onforwarded newspaper clippings dated June 29 1987 from the State Newspaper - "The West Australian" to it's governing body the WARL relating to an article 17 years ago about local Fremantle player Graham Stirrat who played in the A Grade WARL competition.

In the two article's they cover Stiratt had smashed the previous record of 28 goals in a row to sit on 34 after kicking 8 out of 8 against the Canning Bulldogs, then the next article states he kicked one more before missing to be left on 35 in a row in the game against the Belmont Steelers.

The Fremantle Club have Graham Stirrat's record listed in their individual records at 35 goals in a row and will chase clarification through the WARL and the ARL.

Source "West Australian June 29th 1987"

Article covering WARL weekend matches - Headline - "Fremantle Prove Worthy Leaders"
An extract of the article states:

"The playing surface was badly rain affected and was a quagmire in places, though it had improved by the second half but not in time to help Fremantle's world record goalkicker Graham Stirrat in his quest to improve on the 34 straight established over the past five weeks. He increased his total to 35 with a penalty goal but team mate Alan Dixon's first half try in the corner proved to much of a handicap to convert from the sodden take-off point."

With all the recent publicity about Hasem El-masri equalling the world record of 35 with Henry Paul and then it to be broken by England's Barry Eaton have we missed a West Australian who set the record 17 years ago?

that is a good phsycological reason for that but there is some physics behind it too.
it is easier for objects to travel distances in the northen hemisphere than the southern because of differences in the gravity between the hemispheres. in theory, kicking from the sideline in sydney is more difficult than it is in england because of the different gravity.
this also shows in other sports such as golf and cricket where the ball travels alot further than it does down under!

this is where an official RLIF would come in handy

they could set official rules
and could hold official records

heck they could even hold an official world cup

But then your team would need too score 36 tries....do they have it in them?...maybe a few penalties could help..but still....
