It’s safety first coaching and the wrestle. Very hard to get creative without second phase play, quick play the balls and where every play is set like an nfl game book.
Look at england under Bennett, sure we managed to grind like an nrl. Team but that was about the worse attacking display I’ve seen from an England team.
By decreasing the interchange again down to 6. Having the game time stop at all breakdowns, max 30sec stoppage (like in the last 5mins of a game) and change a few little things in the ruck would do wonders. Having fatigued players creates opportunities and skillful players take advantage of that.
It would be interesting to move the defense to 5 or even 7 meters, just to see what that engenders. It is probably the simplest change and something that has already been tampered with.
I firmly believe something needs to change. The probability of one pass or dummy half running in your own 50 is pretty damn high now.
Moving the defence forward from 10m to 5-7m will make the game even easier for the defence to pick off the attack. I think that will have the opposite effect mate to what you want hey.
