Worst combined nsw origin side since 1995

This is the one of the reasons, QLD have been so dominate .
1-BEN HORNBY-.and to think he also started at halfback for Australia.

2-HAZEM EL MASRI- his was a token selection, a dead rubber. A Ross Conlon clone. Picked for his goal kicking, and nothing more

3-MICHAEL DEVERE- a steady centre, but not origin.

4-MATT GEYER- I know he was picked on the wing, but he had to be there.

5-STEVE TURNER- one of the worst wingers ever picked. Short, and slow.

6- BRAITH ANASTA- never performed at this level. Debuted from Canterbury.

7-BRETT FINCH- must have been a long injury toll when he was chosen each time.

13-ANTHONY TOPOU- again a strange selection. Showed promise, but not up to it.

12-BEN CREAGH- too soft for this level

11-TONY WILLIAMS- the worst backrower ever chosen in origin. That's 34 years.

10-RYAN O'HARA- who ?

9- MICHAEL ENNIS- can't believe he will be considered this year. Has a shocking record at origin, and is slow and void of skill. Even his club have bought a young gun to replace him.

8- KEITH GALLAWAY- made no impact, should never have been picked.

Bench- MERRITT, LEROY LARS, POORE, J.KING

Have I left anyone out ?

Prop: Brett White - simply too talented to miss out in this kind of team. J Poore at least played ok in one of his games.

Wing: Nathan Merritt (c) - needs to be a starter and captain. Still runs a clinic on 'how to gift wrap an origin game'

Solid list - will think about it for a little. Great to see Hazem and Ennis selected - both way out of their depth, in fact the origin atmosphere destroyed them both as players. I'm pretty sure El Masri retired soon after his horror origin debut. As for Ennis, - wow cant believe he is still playing - would have thought he would be playing Eddie Munster in a Munsters movie remake by now.

I would argue that QLD's talent pool from 1996 til 2005 was far worse.

In that timeframe we won 3 series and drew two others to NSW 6 outright wins (with 2 white washes).

And SL caused all sorts of disruption to the 95 and 97 series.

Agree with Merritt, that was a ridiculous selection. El Masri was a great goal kicker, no question, the best I've seen, but he was nowhere near origin.

It's like picking a player in a test match because, he was a great fieldsman, but was shit at batting and bowling.

As for Ennis, even his own fans think he's past his use by date.

Great point. I reckon you could come up with a shitier QLD side, but in a combined team, the likes of El Masri, Ennis, TRex, and Turner would be automatic selections.

Would have to agree with most, but you have finch wrong, if you remember yes it was an injury toll to halfbacks at the time, but the game he played, he setup all NSW tries, was one of our best 3, and polled second in the players player vote that year. If your looking for the worst performances from a 7, then it is absolutely clear the Brett kimmorley heads this list. In fact he would near go close as the worst nsw player in history along side Ben creagh.

Is it an overall 'horrible' mark, or are we looking at some sort of crappiness:games-played ratio? Because Pearce would have to be up for contention, definitely over Finch who actually performed ok in his game...

Had Kimmorley on my short list.i suppose, it was more the quality of the player, and not how they performed in origin. For example, El Masri, was a goal kicker, and a finisher, but was the slowest winger in NRL history, and one of the worst defenders. Ennis, was out of his depth, it was embarrassing. He lost NSW a couple of matches with his poor decisions.

Tamou is next to Ennis, as the most overrated current player.

Are you guys serious? No one compares to the big $650,000 per year turkey - TREX. I cant help but notice, that when the Dogs seem to have a good year, NSW end up having some of the Dogs rubbish make the team.So which shitman will they pick this year? Josh Jackson or Finucane - two NSW Cup players ,not origin please...

Disappointing thread. Only 5 players named who play or has played for the Bulldogs. Need to lift your game

El Masri played 1 game which we won by 14 and he scored 10 points. Merritt has him covered for sure.

That game, that El Masri played was a dead rubber. I was tempted to put Merritt in ahead of Hasem, but I think as a winger, Merritt was better than him.

Galloway abit of a harsh mention. Got one game and was for like 10 minutes and he wasn't even bad in that 10

Winger : David Hall. NSW game 3 1995.

Good one. That was during the super league war. Still think El Masri & Turner were the worst wingers. El Masri's was a token selection. They cheapened the NSW jersey when they selected them.
