for work lately i have been compiling a definitive list for our database of the all the kangaroos, of which there are 749 listed.

was shocked to see some of the names though- guys like aaron raper and michale buettner played for australia at one point during the sl war!

who are your worst players to ever pull on the green and gold?

Phil Bailey...

Lucky for Australia he broke his entire face on Kevin Seniors hip, or they might of lost the Ashes in '03.

Paul Hauff had two fantastic years at a club level, and a reasonable SOO series.

His form at the time warranted him being picked for Australia.

He just duffed it massively. His confidence also suffered and his game plummeted very quickly.

Ross Conlon did nothing but kick goals like Hazim El Masri, except he was kicking them at around 67%. He had less game than El Masri too.

Yeah, and Brett Finch is arguably the best half in the NRL.

Very few people would say that. No one would have turned down Villa in their team at the time.

Everyone knows perfectly well his fall from grace was nothing to do with football. Nor, reportedly, anything to do with anything he did.

He only made the squad because several others were injured and even then he didn't make the side save for the first game. He was going as well as he ever did at that time but he was far from the form prop in the world (Fielden could probably claim that) by anyone's measure.

I have fond memories of Paul Hauff. His Origin debut was my first ever glimpse of Australian RL and the event that really got me hooked on the sport, having merely been a distant advocate up until then.

Hauff had a better than decent Origin series, he was everywhere on the field, and faultless IIRC.

Is he Keiths brother? If so where did they meet ;-)

Exactly.

Paul hauff prior was playing excellent football, and you would have said "This bloke deserves a Kangaroos jersey".

It's just when he got it, he f*cked up not only that game, but his entire career.

Ross Conlon was "What the f*ck is this guy doing wearing a Kangaroos jersey ?!?"

Seriously, by the length of the straight. His selection seemed almost random. A borderline first-grader, who never got close to even making City-Country, let alone Origin, playing for Australia.

westie is completely wrong. I'm a diehard Warriors fan and Villa was never the form prop in the world. He struggled to make the Warriors starting line-up throughout his career here and in 2003, when he was picked, he missed half the season with injury and played 2 or 3 decent games.

He was picked purely out of ignorance- the Aussie selectors didn't realise he was Australian, hadn't been watching him, and panicked. It was embarrassing with or without the off-field events that followed.
