After watching the game last night at Parramatta Stadium, and copping a lot from some unimaginative Tigers supporters about "THanks for Hodgo, Richards, Moodie, blah", I noted something.

Our defense, while not perfect, is OK. We can keep teams out.

Our heart was there. In my opinion, I saw 17 blokes give it their all last night.

We just lacked something called - roll in the cliches - the 'X' Factor.

Thorman has skills. He doesn't have a footballing brain or that certan 'X' Factor which makes things happen.

People like Joey, Kimmorley, Gower - they can throw a bad pass or make a bad kick, but because they have this certain demeeanour, this certain 'X' Factor, things work out.

I believe Witt has the 'Y' Factor - he is half ready with the 'X'. With more time I believe he could become our 'X' Factor halfback. He just has this ability I have seen in him to pull off some plays which are sort of lucky.

In conclusion, we desperately need a real organising and play-making halfback with the 'X' Factor.

There. I said it.

An X factor requires spontaneity and unpredictability, two traits which I don't believe fit with Smith's style. IMO the main reason why Dyke's has never really settled or gelled at Parra and why the other players can't read what he's doing.

X Factor is a player who has the natural ability to create something out of nothing. He needs be a natural. At Parra all our players run around like Robots with no creativity.

And Skill is not something u can just teach it coimes naturally. Brett Kenny, Sterlo, Zip Zip all NATURALS. Players like Feleti Mateo has the Skill to go all the way same with Tim Smith, Blake Green. You can just see it in the way the can read the play. ANd how they set up others for a try.

Even JT couldnt change this. He wouldve adapted the same methods as Smith. You have to be an idiot to believe he out of anyone would make a change.

There's no doubt the players tried hard but there just aren't great attacking players in the side. All our wins this season have been gutsy and through persistance rather than by playing brilliant football. Morrison, Riddell, Tahu, and Stringer are great players, but I can't see too much changing next yr.

Without a half we are deadset gonna be belted just as much as we have this year. I like the side with Mateo or Morris at 5/8. When we place all the attacking responsiblity on Witts back its just to much pressure on the young kid. IF nothing is done look forward to a more loss then win record next year. Dont mean to be negative just how it is.

Defence and Enthusiasn in Defence I am now quite happy with. The opposition aren't scoring those soft tries anymore and our cover defence has improved.

X Factor - We don't have a player who is thinking 2 plays ahead. Like, this is what I want to do 2 plays later and communicate it to his outside backs.

We're so OK lets see if Corey can do something this play.

So many times Thorman was the second receiver and the first receiver was a prop (well mostly corey) who passes the ball so damn slow and when Thorman gets it, the defence is all over him!! Get COREY Out of there!!!

gee i said weeks ago.....

that Smithy doesn't like or even allow instinctive and creative play and that Dykes is one of our best instinctive player and perhaps thats why he hasn't fitted in......and i got howled down
