Year by year analysis of Sheens era

This is my take on each year for Tim Sheens at the Tigers, and how I think he's gone.

2003: Sheens came here with a horrible squad, but some good potentials coming through the ranks. Got rid of many nothing players and bought some quality in Brett Hodgson, Scott Prince and Todd Payten, along with some busts like Nick Graham, Scott Sattler and Ben Reynolds. Team finished 13th out of 15th, an average finish.

2004: Sheens had a good squad to work with, just needed to make it click. We had some great wins, and some ordinary losses, finished 9th, dropping our last 3 games to miss the semis. Bought Whatuira along with some busts in Rieck and Jobson.

2005: Sheens had an underrated squad, with some quality juniors reaching the top flight. Benji Marshall had his first injury free season, and Scott Prince reached his potential. Side won the comp, when they peaked at the right time, and at that time were unbeatable. Club bought Crockett, Lolesi, O'Hara, Galloway and Harris, only 2 lasted at the club for more than a season, and one of them spends most of his time in reggies.

2006: Beginning of the end. Prince announced he'd leave at the end of the year, gave Sheens a year to look for a halfback. He had quality halfbacks out there, but opted to go with a utility in John Morris, which was a flop. Injuries ravaged the side, and they had a poor season on the field. Players were constantly played out of position such as Fitzhenry at 6, Lolesi at 13, Farah at 7. Like 2004, some great wins mixed with ordinary losses. Finished a disappointing 11th out of 15. Buys included John Morris, Danny Galea and Peter Lewis, losses were huge with Scott Prince, Anthony Laffranchi and John Skandalis all leaving.

2007: Another mixed bag, great wins and poor losses. John Morris, as predicted by many, was a flop. Go forward was poor as expected, but the side could score a try. Chris Lawrence, Ben Te'o and Jarrod Saffey emerged and proved to be quality players. The side was going well until
Marshall was brought back premature and defended on the wing. Constant shuffling of the deck to keep John Morris in the side proved to be a downfall. recruitment was ordinary again with Corey Payne and Nick Youngquest being purchased. Club knocked back Michael Monaghan, who went off to England. Matt Head was purchased in the off season to 08, who has not featured 4 rounds in and doesn't look to feature any time soon. Club finished 9th after losing 4/6 to end the season.

2008: Sheens signed up for 3 more years pre-seaosn. Tim Moltzen and Peni Tagive a shot at first grade, along with Rhys Hanbury and Beau Ryan. Side won games 1 and 2 comfortably, before getting lapped in rounds 3 and 4. Sheens continues to play players out of position, and to carry dead wood.

After going through this I think Tim Sheens (or Tom Shines) time at the club expired after 2006, since then the club has gone backwards. He came here with no halfback, and signed one, but when he left, he has not signed another. We are stuck with a coach taking us backwards for another 3 years after this one.

Questions that need to be asked
When is the club going to sign a halfback?
When is the club going to address the problem that is the lack of go forward?
Why are we playing people out of position?
Will Sheens get the arse if we miss the finals again?
Why are hacks like John Morris being picked, while players performing like Beau Ryan getting dropped?

Sheens won't get the arse whatever happens as the club will have to pay him out for 3 years. Add a sign on and cost of the new coach and it is now a $3m plus exercise to get rid of messrs shines and sizzler

I'd rather worry about what he will do for the next three years as opposed to bringing up the same things over and over and over again about the past. I think we all have enough to worry about at the moment... Who knows maybe he will assemble another freak of nature team and get us another title.
