THE latest son of a gun, Jackson Hastings, has impeccable bloodlines on both sides.

The 16-year-old's dad is Roosters legend Kevin Hastings and his mother Megan plays women's rugby league.

After starring for Illawarra's Harold Matthews Cup team, Hastings has made the open-age NSW Schoolboys team three years ahead of time.

And he's done it without the pressure of his father's presence, with Kevin being based in Florida for the past decade.

But the kid is not short on mentors. In Melbourne for the under-16s curtain-raiser, he spent more than an hour picking the brain of Blues hooker Robbie Farah.

For me this is the acid test of our CEO . I can wait a year or two for success even three . BUT I can't watch great young talent go to other clubs uncontested .
If we don't sign this young halfback Talent who is a local junior then Teflons buddies on this forum better explain to me what we in fact are trying to achieve .

Hey Father, do we know for sure if he IS unsigned? For all we know he could be tied up already.

Read the other day thats he has gone out and got himself a player manager . I hope we do/have/will sign him .. Everything i hear screams future star from the Steelers .. We also have two top young junior SOO players in Jacob Host (prop ) and Izaac Thompson (wing ) from the St.George side of the merger. If the Plan is local talent there's three young guns right there . Show me Something ..

All great news. Do we have the cash to keep them until they are ready for first grade. So many of your youngsters are brought throuogh the juniors, trained and supported by our joint venture and then picked up by other clubs who don't spend money on developing juniors. The ARL Commission should look into this and have a system of reward for the clubs who spend the bucks developing these young stars.

Yes we can't keep them all however, we should at least be compensated for the money and effort put into their development.

How about the first NRL club to register these players be made to pay 50K to the Junior League that they came from. At least some money would go back to the district Junior league which would mean more money to be spent on other things.
