From the Sun, but all news agencies have basically the same lines:
ST HELENS fans are expected to stage mass demonstrations tonight in support of suspended coach Ian Millward.
Players also considered taking action but backed off for fear of breaching their contracts.
The Saints boss is fighting plans to sack him over three allegations of misconduct verbally abusing a Warrington press officer, Wigan player Brian Carney and an official at the Saints v Bradford game.
Millward is contesting the accusations and sternly rejected the clubs offer to pay him off so he would quit. At a disciplinary hearing yesterday, the club gave him a further two days to reconsider their compensation deal.
But Millward has told friends he has no intention of being forced out because he feels he has done nothing to warrant the sack. The real problem seems to be a personality clash between Millward and Saints chief executive Sean McGuire.
Fans are massively behind the most successful coach in the clubs history and they will vent their anger at tonights fifth-round Challenge Cup home tie against York.
Scrum-half Sean Long also admits he wishes the players could do more to help.
He said: We would love to do something but we cant our hands are tied.
"It will be a massive loss if he isnt allowed to return. I would not be the player I am today without him. Hes been like a second father figure to me.
What a shame that York's big cup tie, the biggest game of many of their players' careers, is oging to be overshadowed by scenes like this. It will probably happen too, the bad feeling over Hanley was pretty bad to watch/hear and he was no way near as popular or innocent as Millward is!
I feel sorry for York's players and supporters to have to be involved in something like this. (Unless that is Saints take it to the extreme and York end up going through! )
