My thoughts on how to improve the team without making too many drastic changes:
* Gidley can NOT stay at fullback -- he's ineffective in attack, and he's not even that solid in defence. It's debatable whether he's even good enough to be in the team, but realistically they won't drop him completely. Move him back to the bench as a utility sub.
* Hayne has to take his place at fullback. NSW's attack looks infinitely more dangerous when he's free to roam. And defensively can he be that that far behind Gidley?
* Shift Lyon back to the centers where he belongs, and Tahu out to the wing.
* Get a real 5/8: Campese, Barrett, or Finch. Kimmorley will look much better with a real 5/8 outside him, especially someone who can share the kicking load.
* Perry and White - the most useless forwards in origin history? At least one of them has to go. Bring in someone who can actually bend the line (e.g., Snowden).
* Having a center on the bench is a luxury that NSW can't afford. Idris will have to go to 18th man.
1. Hayne
2. B. Morris
3. Cooper
4. Lyon
5. Tahu
6. Campese / Barrett / Finch (i.e., a real 5/8)
7. Kimmorley (c)
8. Weyman
9. Ennis
10. White
11. Waterhouse
12. Creagh
13. Watmough
14. Gidley
15. TLL
16. Lewis
17. Snowden
The ridiculous thing (from a NSW fan's point of view) is that the above team is pretty similar to what a lot of fans on this forum would have chosen for Game 1. Everybody could see it except the selectors.
