Interesting selections actually. Harrigan and Mander are certainties, but I thought Paul Simpkins might have been given a run.
Having spoken to him the other day I know why he wasn't given a finals spot - it is a shame that a good season is sometimes spoilt by one mistake. But he is a good ref and no doubt he will be back next year competing for the top honours.
As for Hampstead - you can't pick and choose, but he's o.k. No referee is biased, so I don't claim that choosing between different refs brings issues of one-sided officiating into the game, but some refs have different areas of play they crack down on. All these things are recorded and sent back to the ref to be used in furthering their training, but I sometimes wonder whether some referee interpretations are more harsh in some areas than others.
This kind of thing is inevitable, and isn't a huge problem - it is just a matter of playing the whistle and shaping your game to suit the ref's judgements.
