The hype meter rating in Sydney for the 2014 GF

I'll give it 7.5 out of 10 thus far. See how we go over the next day or two. Could nudge 8. A tad underwhelming considering the Souths factor and two big Sydney teams. Car flag meter is 9.5 though. Very impressed.

The barometer of course for NRL hype was the 2009 prelim final between the Dogs and Eels. That was out of this world. The hype meter almost exploded and it wasn't even a GF.

channel 9 do nothing to promote grand final week. Channel 7 did such a great job promoting the AFL GF Week it makes channel 9 look disinterested in the nrl.

Fair amount of talk about the GF over here this week at work even from the resident fumbleball fans.

Im at a workplace with a massive amount of Dogs fans, they have been suprising quiet throughout the finals, after really talking it up with their good run at the start of the season. Souths fans seem pretty cocky, its like they have won already.

Most of the fans of teams not in the running were on the cowboys and have pretty much lost interest since they were knocked out. Now for the majority of the people is who they want to lose as opposed to who they want to win.

Hype is at about a 4 out of 10 from where I stand, most conversations I have heard or been involved in lately that relate to football are who will go well next year signings etc and how many fullbacks will the Broncos have

The days of the casual neutral fan getting excited about the grand final are long gone. Ticket prices mean only fans of each club go these days, and with how frustrating the NRL is to watch with what referees have done to it most can only stomach watching their own side play, so picking a 2nd team once you side is out doesn't happen anymore.

It rates just because it's an event. The emotion of it is long gone if your team isn't involved IMO.

Only game that could get a neutral excited would be a Cinderella story, like the Cowboys or better still the sharks making it to the GF
