Have to laugh at the Balmain old timers firing up and calling for the sacking of the board. They really dont get that the club is for all intense and purposes now owned and run by Wests do they?

Benny was funny last night when challenged about Balmain financial woes and he bristled and started blurting about no we werent broke lol

he was triggered big league! lol

Balmain Leagues Club were already around $20,000,000 in debt, and he thinks Wests Tigers need more Balmain people on the WT board! Lol!

Hey Benny, Balmain hasn't been the same since you hit the crossbar - CLONK! What a wonderful sound that was when the ball hit the cross bar!

That is complete bullshit Alien. You realise licensed clubs publish annual reports dont you. In 2008 which is when the GFC hit and Benny unfortunately got his hands on the club, Balmain Leagues Club had assets of $ 31,201,147 and liabilities of $ 26,671,549 which is a NET ASSET of $4,529,598. The year before they had net asset of $8M. You are a weak lying merkin.

I could compare that to Souffs Leagues club, but you dont have one any more do you? Not since Rusty blew up the pokies. Ill add that in 2008 Balmain Leagues spent $900K on grants to junior leagues. How much does Souffs spend? Oh thats right they spend zero, infact they put their hand out and take money from them.

Typical of you weak flea to jump into the problems of a Leagues club when your mob cant even keep one going.

"South Sydney Herald 2/9/13
REDFERN: The social heartbeat of Redfern, formally known as Souths on Chalmers, was supposed to be a safe and family friendly environment where you could catch up with people, have a quiet drink, or cheer on the Bunnies – with huge TVs playing all live sports and weekly entertainment for all.

This came to an end, with the club failing to avoid falling into the hands of a voluntary administrator and consequently closing its doors for the final time on March 25 of this year.

Souths on Chalmers is a separate entity from the South Sydney Football Club, and was perceived as a valuable addition to the neighbourhood. Many residents held high hopes for the former South Sydney Leagues Club that was previously closed for renovations back in 2008.

In the 2012 Chairman’s Report, Chairman Bill Alexiou-Hucker expressed excitement for the opening of Souths on Chalmers, stating: “We kicked off the opening of Souths on Chalmers with a guest list of members of the Burrow and Football Club, past players and members who regularly attended our AGM along with our Life Members. As numbers were restricted, the Board and CEO felt that this was a good representation of the members who have followed our progress over recent years.”

Seventeen months on, the Leagues Club is now in voluntary administration, owing $5.65 million. This involves $2.6 million owed to a private lender, and $2 million to the Castellorizian Club which formerly ran the security on the premises. The debts also include $400,000 to a previous director and $600,000 to tradespeople who worked on the development."

Ah.....yes 1989, that was a tough moment for Balmain fans but its good sometime to sit back and think about things that could be worse. Like being a Souffs fan (generally) in 1989 when they won the minor premiership then went out in straight sets. LOL@Souffs!!!! You remember how painful that wsa dont you Alien? You were a Souffs fan werent you?

I'm not sure why Elias feels it appropriate to come in and bat hard for Balmain. Last I checked, Wests clubhouse isn't the local hangout spot for graffitists and ice addicts.

"Rozelle Village was a joint venture between Mr Elias and Ian Wright when it bought the financially embattled club's headquarters for $1 in 2009 in return for taking over its debts of $23.5 million."

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/balmain-l...ute-with-rozelle-village-20140822-107cnd.html

Balmain was already screwed!

Imbecile, read my post PROPERLY (or the published annual reports) they took over the liabilities of the club of $23.5M. Now why do you think they did that? Because they are Balmains fairy godmother? No you idiot, they took Balmains assets as well. In 2008 Balmain Leagues had NET assets of $4.5M. Ignorant prick.

How is Souffs on Chalmers going? Is the liquidation finished yet? Did everyone get paid when they went broke?
Balmain Leagues got royally screwed over by Benny, the GFC and the NSW Government and yet we struggle on with good management and tough decisions, scraping a living and surviving out of two premises. Still serving its members who own it. Souffs go belly up still owing money serving Russel Crowe and his whims. Seems about right.

There is something very poetic and typical about Souffs Leagues going belly up and getting bought out by the Salvation Army. Only at Souffs.

Great post but sadly you are wasting your time with this shitstain.

I could be wrong but I remember there was a news report done on the site a couple of months back and they said despite all the dramas it was still valued at over $50million.

Regardless Balmain can no longer pay their way and are a token gesture in the running of the west tigers, must pain the old timers like benny but all his shouting isn't going to make balmain more relevant given their financial non situation. Calling for the Wests boards heads and for more Balmain people on it is as likely as bears being back in the nrl.

Does anyone else think Balmain Leagues Club weren't in financial trouble before Benny bought the $23.5 million debt??? Maybe I somehow jumped into a parallel universe where they weren't in financial trouble! This must be the so called "Mandela Effect", no? :p

You are a lying prick and now trying to weasel.

You said Balmain were in trouble because they were $20M in debt. They weren't. They had net assets of $4.5M.

Balmain were not producing enough income and therefore tried to develop the asset to generate income. Would have been debt free and producing income. But NSW govt scrapped the metro. Then GFC, then benny. Then leichhardt council. Then state planning screwed them.

So to answer your question. Balmain were in a bit of trouble. Not Souffs level of trouble where you get liquidated and bought out by the salvos. But not good.

You are a lying ignorant gronk Aien. Let it go.

Back on topic. I heard Taylor got sacked.

Its still Magpies v Tigers. While its like that this mob get nowhere until one kills off the other or they realise after almost 20 years they're on the same team now. Pathetic shit from Elias but expected nothing more from that turd.

assets are great but if you're losing milliOns ayear in operations those assets aren't much use unless you flog them off ala Cronulla, I'm guessing Balmain assets were required for operations so not able to be sold off to cover debt?

Alien still having a sad over the JV. Wests own three quarters of it now, watch the sad merkin come crawling back in the near future since Wests have a controlling interest.
