Did the same English batter hit the winning runs in each game?
DING DING DING! We have a winner.
Andrew Flintoff came very close in the 2003 Bangladesh vs England series, hitting the winning runs in 2 of the 3 games and was not out in all 3, but Paul Collingwood hit the winning runs in the other game.
So yeah, that is the only 2+ ODI game bilateral series since 1971 where the same player hit the winning runs in every game in the series, and ALSO most likely (needs to be verified) the only time a player has hit the winning runs in 3 consecutive ODIs.
Lol cant believe that. That was a lucky guess.
I think it was Mark Waugh who also told the story about he was giving tips to Robertson about the first ball get it out of the system take the nerves away, a bit like Warne when he was bowling to Shastri in his first test. Didn't go well though.
Well, Robertson got 0/24 off 7 overs. So, he only went for 0/18 off the other 6.5 overs. However, that was the only game he played in that tournament.
Regarding Ravi Shastri, an absolute shame Warne got tonked by him in that SCG test (including dropping him off a caught and bowled), as Shastri was absolutely pedestrian as an opening batsman during the ODIs that summer:
33 off 110
10 off 68
0 off 6
4 off 22
1 off 2
22 off 67
11 off 35
17 off 50
61 off 115
57 off 112
25 off 67.
Have a look at how great those strike-rates are! Even back then, that was pathetic and his slow start cost India in several run chases. Although not far behind, Geoff Marsh was also past it by that stage, having many slow starts of his own.
