Believe it or not the reason for the joining for Wests and Balmain was a colour synergy. BALMAIN would not lose much with adding white as it was a neutral colour. The News ltd created talk of the time was also having Balmain join with Parramatta which would have destroyed the iconic Balmain gold colour as the Eels gold was totally different and would have dominated. I have inside information on this logic. These things matter when clubs are being carved up, especially from a marketing and fans point of view.

Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha.

Do you really think they gave the remotest of shits about colours?!?! They merged because both needed a partner and neither was strong enough to consumer the other.

Are you an idiot?

I have direct inside knowledge that the colours were a major consideration. Something you 'destructionist ' type advocates dont consider are things like colours, jumper styles, club songs, fan banter and emotional plus historical attachment of fans to a club. You discard these factors as trivial as you ignorantly go about your misguided and damaging stance toward rugby league.

Sure you do mate, sure you do.

Frankly if it was true that everybody was worried about their teams colours matching with the other teams (which they may have been, I don't know, nor do I care), then that would be just another example of how bad the administrators in our sport are.

I had some mail correspondence on this very topic at the time with the Balmain CEO. I've still got the thank you letter from the Balmain CEO Danny Monk.

lol, whatever credibility he had in his point of debate went out of the window at this point!

I can imagine the conversation:
Balmain board: we are fcked! We need to merge or we are gone. Who shall we merge with?
Lets pick whoever has the most complimentary colour brand.
But what about cultural fit, geography, finances, fanbase, facilities, need to relocate etc? Nah we are more interested in not ruining our jersey. Sweet lets go for Wests then.

Amazingly ignorant comment! But then again that's consistent with your whole stance on rugby league! One of the main reasons that I support the club I go for is its colours and the style of jumper it has! Factors like these, or things like people might have an affiliation to a tiger and therefore go for the tigers can be reasons to support a club. However, you choose to ignore these very real factors in figuring out why someone may choose to follow a particular team. And in the end these type of reasons amount to loyalty and in many cases a generational fan base. It just doesn't click with you dudes!?
I think the real idiots are having a shot at the genuine fan!

Sure, sure and he was more then willing to share confidential information about his businesses future plans to some random PE teacher, at a time when if that info had got out to the media it could mean the difference between cementing a good working relationship with the clubs they were looking into merging with, and the difference between his club surviving in the NRL and being killed off.

Wait a minute, aren't you the guy that's constantly asserting that people only support clubs because of their storied histories, the fact that they are old, and because they are based on the magical soil that makes up Sydney?! What now branding is a factor too?

And if it's true that branding is a factor (which of course it is) then surely we don't need more Sydney clubs to represent all of Sydney, surely we can just rejig some of the brands of some of the clubs to better represent the areas that we need them to, maybe we could even relegate some of the clubs to the NSWcup and then rejig the rest of the clubs brands to better represent Sydney and not be dragging the ball and chain that is the over saturated market that Sydney has become at the same time!

BTW stop spreading the conspiracy theory that RU and/or the AFL had anything to do with SL, because it's factually incorrect.

I'm sure colours were discussed, but that would've been by the marketing department AFTER the merger happened.

Troll must try harder. You follow a team because you like their jersey? Yeh right.

"Style of jumper" - so he changes week-to-week depending on what theme the round has. "I really like the (insert club here) indigenous/Anzac/Women's jersey, I'm going for them this week."

If you dont think club colours have anything to do with branding then you are the idiot in this conversation! Its a whole package that's involved in branding!

You blokes are unbelievable! I happened to shine toward the Easts Roosters tricolour jumper and that was my first image of a rugby league game on tv during a daytime grandfinal in the 70s. From then on I have been a supporter, and in fact trialled with that club. An experience most of you dropkicks will not even begin to realise what is like! Rock solid nuffies you have proven to be with your ridiculous and rude comments. Its a free world though and you idiots can jibber along with aimless thoughts. Quite pathetic and disturbingly consistently stupid .

I'd suggest you have the intelligence issue!

Lol, intelligence and comprehension aren't the same thing, you can be very intelligent and struggle with comprehension.

Anyway, lets try this again.

You responded to this-

Now that we've got that out of the way I'd like it if you responded to the content of my post that I have quoted here instead of reasserting your point like you always do.

Tell us again about how mergers were chosen on jersey colours, I need a good laugh. I guess st George only decided on the steelers as the colours matched also and bears and manly were doomed to failure due to the colour clash?

You've solved the Sydney over saturation problem
Sharks and roosters to merge, just need to change the shade of blue in the roosters jersey
Tigers and panthers to merge, just add a bit more black to the Tigers jersey
Sorted, colours go well together so bound to be good choices.

Plenty of assumptions in your crap piece of unfounded information. My word you have failed in both substance and argument. Deary me!

For a start their is no imminent or immediate requirement for clubs to be carved up as you think! The saints/illawarra merger was in part acceptable due to a lack of colour clash. The whole scenario of mergering was as a result of a poorly negotiated "peace" deal whereby the ARL clubs were shafted. So don't preach as if the mergers and eliminating with relocation was and is the right thing to do. You have a massive disrespect for history and cultural significance. This is your failing.

Well, at least you're more aware of your failings PR in the context of the Gospel according to My Little Pony.
