FAGES WANTED BY NRL CLUBS

Speculation has continued to grow in both England and Australia that St Helens star Theo Fages could move to the NRL for the 2018 campaign.

The 23-year-old is currently in Australia for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, with him captaining France and he is attracting a lot of attention from NRL bosses at the minute, with Newcastle Knights being one of the sides believed to be interested.

Five clubs in the NRL are reported to be interested in Fages but the half-back is under contract at Saints until the end of the 2019 campaign and could be replaced in the halves by Jonny Lomax, with Ben Barba expected to be handed the No. 1 jersey for 2018.

The thugs who deprived the RL world of seeing great radical League by the French should have been put up against a wall.
In the Lebanon game there were flashes of brilliance by the Frogs resulting in their first try.
OZ RL is boring.
I was about seven y.o.when my Dad took me to see the Frogs play.Jean Dop the dimunitive French half would run up the centre of the ruck and throw the ball up and over his head, his forwards would be criss crossing behind him.The OZ forwards were mesmerised and did not know who would be receiving the ball.
The crowd of 60 thousand were equally mesmerised by such flamboyant RL.
The French government should hang their collective heads in shame at their refusal to compensate their own R.L.

Apparently Bousquet has met with an NRL player manager. Be good to see how he goes against the Aussie pack as it could get him an NRL contract.

Fages will have to be more noticable than he was against Lebanon if he wants an NRL contract.

I'm a big fan of his Super League work but in Canberra when the game was there to be won, Moses showed him how it's done. Got some nice ball to his backs but didn't take the line on or play direct enough. It's a game France should have won and at least part of that rests on Fages and Barthau.

For anyone interested in reading contemporary French match reports of the France national team between 1934-1960, might I recommend a couple of books for you.

"When The C o c k Crowed" covers 1934-51 and "Still Crowing" (just released) covers 1951-60, with several World Cups covered.

(Spaces in the title required to circumvent profanity filter!)

I don't understand why teams don't play like this anymore. Too much moneyball statistics optimisation.

So what Is a good result for France (and rugby league) on Friday night? I think if they can score a couple of tries and keep Australia to around 30 -36 points is the very best we can hope for. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m fearing a 60-70 point drubbing.

For starters, they need to at least get the rub of the green from the referee - what is Hicks like as a referee?

I am French and volunteer of an Elite1 club, as I wrote in another subject, personally I am very angry because I think we were sacrificed to artificially increase the level of this world cup thanks to eligibility changes. This world cup was very important in order to regain our place in the national media because we have to continue our recovery and concretize new projects like Super XIII , broadcast of our international matches on national channels. For example, the main newspaper that speaks of XIII in France titled: "They will have to explain to ordinary citizens how their team could lose against Lebanon"
We're going to have to endure stupid jokes ....again

Good on you mate.......who do we have to bump off to get justice for French RL?
Vive l France( and England)
An afterthought,if France had Cam Smith,Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater playing for them, they wouldn't be bagging the frogs. The diff between a champion team and an also ran is just a few special players.
Now if you could clone Brousse and Ponsinet, throw in PuigAubert and Jean Dop.

To develop our potential we must have more professional players. I think that integrating a French team in Queensland Cup on the model of "Hunters" would be a good thing. A team that could be based in New Caledonia, Noumea is a French city closer to Brisbane than Port Moresby.

Very interesting idea and unique one. Is there much/any League in New Caledonia and could the finances ever be found to support such a team? Or are suggesting FFRXIII back it?

Unfortunately there are no more teams playing League there. I heard that some union rugby clubs in the suburbs of Nouméa played league recently, after a disagreement with their federation.
This is just my idea but I think everyone could be a winner with the creation of this Kanak team !
The new caledonia could gain great benefits in economic terms, development, communication. this could strengthen economic ties between this province, Australia and all neighboring islands. The Australian fans could turn into tourists as is already the case with the English fans who come to Perpignan. Local partners might be interested (Aircalin for example), but also Australian or French. The players could come from France because many young players could be interested in the experience but also New Caledonia, Wallis Vanuatu etc.

This is a great idea! Just what French Rugby League needs. Have you emailed the Queensland Rugby League or Nrl?

I believe it’s worth a go nothing else seems to be working re French standards lifting.

What an interesting concept ! I've been to NC and I don't think it's stupid idea at all. Would only need to build a stadium lol.

I thought a couple years back there was a plan to develop league in New Caledonia, not sure if it was the old or new president but do remember something was said?
