Now hang on a second, are you suggesting this administration just makes shit up as they go along?

They won't suspend JH if and because 'he has to pay damages'. Any potential damages and any potential suspension would arise from a common source.....a finding against JH in a US civil case. It wouldn't be the 'damages' that would cause any potential suspension, it would be the evidence presented and tested in court and the findings of that court that may trigger a suspension. .

Lodge was effectively suspended (i.e. registration refused) at least partly on the basis of the evidence/allegations presented in US.

Peachey's current perspective on his future:

Tyrone Peachey insists he will be at the Panthers for the remainder of this year and has refused to put a timeframe on when he will make a decision about whether to accept a lucrative deal from the Gold Coast.

Having spoken about his desire to win a starting spot for the round one derby against the Eels and launch a premiership assault with the Panthers, a reserved Peachey conceded he had spoken to Titans coach Garth Brennan over summer.
But any move won't be as early as this year, with Peachey declaring his only ambition is to win a title with the Panthers this year.

the NRL said they don't get involved in civil cases

Here is the relevant quote:

"We only make decisions based on football and behavioural matters," a spokesman said.

"We don't get involved in any civil matters. There is no requirement in there related to payment."

Yes, they don't get 'involved' in the sense that they are not responsible for enforcement of civil claims. The very sentence above say that they make decisions on 'behavioural matters'. Nothing in what they said precludes them from observing evidence of behaviour via court findings, whether the be criminal or civil. That is not the same as 'getting involved' in the case.
