| Value | Comparative Rank | Score | Notes |
Win Percentage | 67% | 2nd | A- | Just the 4 losses, with our biggest loss being by 4 points is pretty decent.
Still it's hard not to be disappointed that we didn't win all 4 given the match circumstances, and the chances we had. |
Points For (avg) | 24.2 | 4th | B+ | Hard to get a gauge on.
Some games we've created plenty of opportunies, but bombed half of them.
Other games we've only created a few opportunites, but taken them all.
And others we've been scoring points for fun. |
Points Against (avg) | 11.9 | 1st | A+ | Head and shoulders above everyone else.
Broncos are the 2nd best team at 17.4 points per game. |
Players Used | 23 | 1st | A | Have done well to navigate short-medium term injuries to guys like Fisher-Harris, Martin & Tago.
Have also been able to pivot to a new starting second-row pairing, and are starting to see some good signs from Lindsay Smith.
Perhaps missed an opportunity to bring in Tom Jenkins with the Tago injury - but Peachey did a good job, scoring 3 tries in that 4 match stretch.
About to enter our biggest test, with Cleary out, and State of Origin. |
Overall probably an A-
There is no doubt that we have come back to the pack a bit, while the general level of competition has also increased significantly. Our defence is still head and shoulders above everyone else, and that should ensure we finish at the pointy end of the competition.
The lack of class out of dummy-half is still an issue - although we have improved significantly since the opening rounds. And we really have no other options either - especially with the Cleary injury, we've missed our chance to see Cogger get a shot at 9.
All of our losses have been super-winnable games, which is disappointing. We're obviously struggling a bit in the wet this year, which impacted the Broncos, Eels and Tigers losses. But all these matches we had enough ball to win, and struggled to convert into points. We also seem to have lost a bit of patience when chasing points, and outside of a few outliers, we haven't been able to find that killer blow with the game on the line. Then there is the Rabbitohs game which we dominated for 75mins and lost.
We also made some pretty big game-management blunders in regards to penalties in the red-zone, and leaving the 2 points begging. 3 weeks in a row we got it wrong - which resulted in a win in Golden Point (which could have been avoided), and 2 point loss (which could have gone to Golden Point), and a 4 point loss (which again could have gone to Golden Point). Sounds easy in hindsight - but when the attack has been as clunky and hit/miss as ours, we should have banked the points.
I think the competition is going to blow open over the next 4-5 weeks, and we'll see the Top 6 teams pull away from the pack. And we'll be well inside that group. If we can keep the majority of our squad healthy for finals, the 3peat is well and truly on the table.
