This new stadium for Sydney better not be multi-purpose

Terry Kennedy on Sky Sports Radio reckons he has it on good authority that the proposed new stadium in western Sydney will either be in Penrith or Liverpool and it will be multi-purpose, allowing GWS to play home games there.

My question: how many stadiums does this GWS mob want?

It will be an utter disgrace if this stadium is not rectangular in the mould of Suncorp Stadium.

f**k off GWS. If its not rectangular the NRL shouldn't commit

They won't. The ARLC is smarter than before and the stadium would need regular tenants. WSW seem comfortable enough at Parra at least for the next few years so I guess the Thunder would be the primary tenant with the shitdick midgets playing 3 1/2 games a year there.

What happened to that $250,000,000 war chest the Victorians threw at GWS? They spent all that cash turning the Sydney Showground into an AFL stadium, and now want to spend more on another stadium?

Sadly they only paid about $10m while local and state governments have spent around $200m.

GWS neglected WS proper when they moved all their operations to Homebush. They can't backtrack now.

With Wanderers and at least 2 NRL clubs playing out of it, this stadium would have at least 40 matches a year - certainly enough to see a positive return.

GWS & AFL have conned everyone!

Not only the NSW Government and local councils, don't forget the ACT Government has given GWS $23 million over 10 years to play 4 games per year in Canberra, Manuka Oval.

They are on the nose as much in Canberra as they are in the western suburnbs of Sydney.

I agree with other posters the ARLC & FFA should simply not entertain the prospect of a supporting a multi-purpose stadium. We have seen what a disaster that is at ANZ for watching RL.

Sydney is a RL city, reagrdless of what others try and tell you. Melbourne is an Aussie Rules city. The Vic government would not for one moment contemplate building another rectangular stadium in Melbourne. The NSW government should not contemplate building another AFL ground in Sydney. Afterall GWS already has 3 venues in Homebush & Blacktown.

They may go down as the most hated franchise in Australian sporting history. No one liked the Hunter Mariners but at least they didn't fill Newcastle with unnecessary stadiums.

I can cop the showground staying as is (Eastershow, Soundwave, etc...) but Blacktown, ANZ and wherever this new stadium goes deserve better spectator facilities for viewing the popular games of Sydney; not oval monstrosities on the off chance these selfish f**ks play there on the odd occasion.

Jesus Christ.

So they got $90 million out of the NSW Government to turn the Showground into Skoda Stadium. Which is across the road from ANZ Stadium. Which they could have used.

They got $27 million spent on Blacktown Sportspark to use as their training base. Except they abandoned it during their first season.

The ACT Government has spent $10 million on lights and other upgrades to Manuka for them.

This new stadium could see as many as 44 regular NRL and A-League season matches played at it and at most 4 AFL games. And they want it made an oval.

f**k you and the horse you rode in on GWS.
