The greatest game totally dominated by union internationally

Its such an inferior spectacle, even since theyve made so many rule changes to try and turn it into a version of rugby league. Yet why oh why is union so internationally strong?
Such powerful strong leaders taking the game of forward passes and knock ons to appeal to the masses.
Our world cup will go on unnoticed.
Money and intelligence certainly is beating the greed and blue collar ways of RL and the greediest of all the NRL dont give a shit about anything bar NRL.
Sack em all....bring in the lawyers, doctors and accountants [who become politicians] that RL has detested for so long.

This.
How do we increase the appeal of the game to the white collar, university educated...without turning off the blue collar working class?

Dominated domestically by afl, internationally by union. What do they have in common? They are both inferior products on the field but far far superior in administration off it. There in lies your answer.

By-and-large, there is certain level of prestige associated with the XV player code stemming back to its almost exclusive elite private school heritage.
That filters into the high end of the business world as well as the political sphere.
In short: Rugby Union has friends in high places.
Further to that, culturally there is a self-loathing adoration of the elite amongst many in the lower classes which is largely perpetuated by the mainstream media. Look at the fanfare in Australia surrounding the Royal Family as an example.
Experience-based predilection goes out the window if it means riding on the bandwagon with the genteel.

Stretch to stay that AFL dominates League. Sure there are more states that follow AFL than League but NSW and QLD is half of the population at least. There is little AFL precense here in Brisbane and the rest of QLD and the majority of NSW. AFL doesn't dominate.

And Rugby Union in Australia is run by such turkeys that make Greenberg look like Einstein.

One thing the game could do to appeal more to the snooty college educated man/mother is see if we can improve the speaking skills of the players and coaches.
It seems to be part of the culture at RL clubs to speak dumb.
This does damage to the code when we are trying to impress mums and dads and women by way of good behaviour off the field and safe play on the field.

when our pm played ball with the president which ball did she use? Afl has two teams in every major city, is more watched, has more revenue and a bigger national media profile. It pleases me not one bit but not really a stretch to say they are streets ahead of us at the moment,

Those codes also have universal private school access/presence! Along with no barriers for playing in public schools. Rugby league does not enjoy both!

Just because they plonked clubs in Brisbane and Sydney doesn't mean very much. Brisbane is Rugby League through and through. League dominates all media, public interest and sports talk outside of summer. The Lions are completely alien and irrelevant, their glory days are long gone. Same as the Gold Coast and it's a seperate city.

Same as Sydney the vast majority aren't interested in AFL and Rugby League is the number 1 winter sport by long shot.

I like the stoic chest pump up for rugby league however its undeniable that other rival codes including AFL are making sugnificant progress in rugby league 'dominated' areas. Given that rugby league is a superior code this is a concern. Believe it or not rugby league is making inroads in development in Victoria despite little media coverage. This is a positive reflection on this code. It clearly has the goods but needs to be vigilant and look after its own backyard much better.

The number change required is for the ARLC to put the NRL back in its place

NRL admin should only focus on the "elite" competition as is its charter

And we should have a seperate group to manage international and domestic state leagues and domestic rep program like SOO

Finally we should be talking up the RLWC even though its not on Ch9 or Fox - its still a World Cup

Its a big deal - the problem is the local media and NRL management treat it so poorly

Disagree that AFL is making significant progress into Brisbane as it is League dominant. Sure when the Lions were the glamour club they attracted big crowds and coverage but these days there are barely any articles in the daily Murdoch rag about them, barely any mention on the radio and the evening news bulletins are all about the Broncos and RL. Most of Brisbane doesn't know 1 player and couldn't care less about them. Even in Sydney Rugby League makes up most of the sporting viewing and it always will.

And thats the way it should be considering their is a clear history of rugby league being popular and deservedly so over the many generations. What you haven't factored in is the future indications whereby, for instance, I am seeing anecdotal evidence of kids playing other football codes in schools in the Newcastle area with little or no rugby league being played. AFL goal posts are being erected in many areas that were once rugby league only areas in Newcastle and Ive heard the same is happening in Sydney. It's not wise to think that their is no threat with such obvious signs about. The development people in rugby league have been ignoring inner city areas and poorly targeting / selling the virtues of rugby league in general. Their are issues for the game and ignoring such signs is not wise for the code of rugby league.

Your kind of missing the point. If they are number 1, by a country mile, in half of the country and strong and growing in the other half then they are streets ahead of nrl who are strong in half the country, ok in Melbourne and pretty much non existent in SA and WA.

You are talking like SA and WA are actually important...

One is a rust belt ex manufacturing state totally reliant on Government jobs and handouts... the other is currently between mining booms and in the doldrums...

Combined they comprise 18% of the countries population...

Just 18% oh that's ok then lol.
Good luck with the corporate sponsor discussions

Exec meeting : shall we sponsor afl or nrl?
Isn't nrl an east coast sport whilst afl reaches the whole country?
Yes.
Don't we want to market our goods to the whole country?
Yes
Why are we having this discussion?

Only one code is laying claim to be "Australias game" and it isnt RL.
