Henry Nicholls must have some comprising photo’s of someone high up on NZ cricket???
Maybe, but the reality is we just don't have depth - so there are always 3+/- a few plodders in any team we field - in this lineup Nicholls is a stand-out, but Astle and CDG are plod too...

Munro would be the obvious person to bat at 5 instead of Nicholls, but he's ditched proper cricket, and the others have done even less than Henry - Watling is fine as a 6, but as always if the new ball gets through our top 4 we are in some trouble

Munro would be perfect as a Counter attacking 5 especially with the solid Watling following him at 6.

Shame he has gone that way.

Agree - he's done well in first class cricket, so deserved a bit of a chance - and when he pulls his head in he's much more effective, and still very aggressive

Wish this test started couple of days back

prefer it like that rather than 2 test matches at the same date (though the time zones are different)

The best thing about pink ball cricket, according Scott Styrofoam is that 'strategy plays a part'.

That's called test cricket Scott, its beem goimg on for about 140 years

Cook out as boult strikes.

Cook out as boult strikes.

He is probably referring to the added 3rd session night and swing dimension to strategy which pink ball tests on greener pitches that preserves the ball for longer creates.

Boult bowls Root with an inswinger. England 6/2, with Stokes playing as a specialist bat at 5 instead of his typical 6 position as England are a bowler heavier due to Stokes not bowling this test than usual if Stokes plays and bowls.

Good start for NZ here.

Huge start by Boult - England's two best gone with 6 runs on the board

Boult gets Malan with a length ball on top of off, Malan plays straight but edged and a great take in front of 1st slip by BJ - the Boult vs left handers show has resumed in full effect.

Nice low take by BJ as Southee is gifted an edge by Stoneman.

England 4 down for 18.

dusk seems to be when the ball starts to talk but at this rate they may be all out by then, you dont want to be batting under lights with the pink ball if Adelaide was anything to go by
