Hall of Fame nominations

Mark Graham was a great player, however if he is in surely Mal Reilly should also be.

Do the judges memories only go back to the 80's.

He should be in ahead of Petero, Tallis or Menzies.

Mate there are a lot of players who should be in but aren't yet. It can take time.

There are some players in the NFL who took years if not on a decade of being considered before they made the NFL Hall of Fame. It's not because they weren't good enough, just there was a glut of good candidates being considered.

No matter how hard you try to not make it political, it will be. All things considered there is not one player on the list you would say is unworthy, so on that basis hard to argue...

If anything epitomises the half baked, amateur hour nature of Rugby League it has to be the Hall of Fame and the Immortals

How on Earth can we have a Hall of Fame where there have been no inductees for a decade?
There is no documented process for nominations
There is no documented process for how many people will be inducted either from each year, decade gone or decade to come
There are no guidelines for a minimum baseline for nomination

Rather than just nominate 6 players (all good nominations and all worthy recipients may I add) we should be taking the time to properly think about what a Hall of Fame should be about, who it should represent and what it should mean to the people involved in the game and those who love it

Instead like every referral to the bunker, we never know what we're going to get and we all end up arguing about the result

This whole thing will end up as inane as the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Just put everybody who played first grade since 1908 and be done with it......

You need to do a bit more research then.

Have a read of these -

As such some of your contentions are erroneous.

Thank you, I stand corrected

This must be a recent thing, as it states a minimum of one new player every two year cycle and no one has been inducted in a decade

It's great to see that the NRL has finally gotten around to organising some proper parameters around this

I am assuming that the 6 inductees are being done to cover for the lack of entries over the past decade

Just so it is in the one place, the NRL have now announced criteria for how non-Australian born players can qualify for admittance.

To be eligible for inclusion in the Hall of fame, a player must have:

  • Competed in the elite premiership rugby league competition in Australia;
  • Played the majority of their elite rugby league career in Australia, and;
  • Retired for five years from competing in a professional sporting competition.
Source: https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/07/23...rs-in-line-for-future-hall-of-fame-inclusion/

As such this criteria means players like Malcolm Reilly, Ellery Hanley and Adrian Morley will not be eligible for inclusion as they did not play the majority of there career in Australia.
