St.George businesses keen to keep final Kogarah match

28 May 2006

R2K has completed and submitted a petition signed by over 100 local businesses in order to stop the fifth and final Kogarah home game from being switched to the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Businesses from Carlton, Kogarah, Allawah and Carss Park have revealed their enthusiasm for NRL matches in the St.George District by signing R2K’s "Local Games Mean Local Dollars - Businesses For Jubilee" petition.
The local businesses that have signed the petition are opposed to the round 24 match against the Wests Tigers being switched to the SCG and support six St.George-Illawarra NRL matches being staged at Kogarah in 2007.

The petition was submitted tonight at St.George Leagues Club‘s Reception, with the original being addressed to Mr Warren Lockwood (St.George-Illawarra Chairman) and a copy addressed to Mr Danny Robinson (St.George Leagues Club General Manager). The St.George Leagues Club hold the lease for Jubilee Oval.

Copies will also be provided tomorrow to Kogarah Council, Cherie Burton (Member for Kogarah) and Robert McClelland (Member for Barton).
R2K would like to thank the volunteers who assisted with the petition, with special mention to Chris Atkinson and Mark Davies. R2K encourages St.George-Illawarra fans to support the following local businesses from Carlton, Kogarah, Allawah and Carss Park that signed the R2K petition:

R2K, perhaps you could check something out for me. I was told over the weekend that a number of games are going to be taken away from Oki due to the condition of the newly laid turf. I was told that there will only be the NRL game there on Friday, with the Premier league and the Jersey Flegg transfered to Win, and then the turf is to be lifted again, leaving the ground unfit for play.
As I said, this is just what I was told and I can't give a source to this, and seeing as I can't get answers to anything I ask the club, I thought you may be able to confirm or deny this situation.
Cheers.
