Another shit knights crowd. Anyone know their lowest ever season average? Could be tracking towards a new record this season.

FFS it doesn't have to move from Wednesday if it becomes stand alone!Put it on whatever day the networks want. Just pause the comp for 3 weeks.

It is CRAY CRAY to have 3 full weekends with absolutely no RL in middle of winter...

this alone will cost about $25 million a year off the rights... which is like $125M over a 5 year deal

and sit back and watch, A league put the GF on one weekend, AFL have all SYdney and BRIS derbies on, ARU teams will all be at home that weekend...

What we need to do is find 6 (3 weeks x 2) RL based games (not NRL) that can be played on the FRI, SUN of the weeks before origin

IDEAS ??

A massive NZ game ? (south v North island) @ Eden Park
Pacific Island match x2 ? Live from FIJI / TONGA ?
PNG v WA, VIC,SA,NT,TAS Players ???
City v Country (Can this be a filler game )
Can World Club Champs be played in MAY ???
Can 2 Superleague clubs come out ??
Can England play NZ ?

Its only 6 quality games we need to find,, and they dont have to break records just fill time, and keep eyeballs interested.....

I don't know why they don't sell them like most transport tickets these days - cheap at first ramping up to expensive at the last minute. Basically fiddle with the price in real time as a function of demand to obtain the optimal result in terms of crowd and revenue.

Wouldn't work well for NRL games, but probably would work well for Origin.

44k over a four game weekend when that features a game in Canberra isn't too bad. Of all the crowds the Souths v Parra crowd was probably the worst all things considered - 50k members between the clubs and an 11k crowd is embarrassing.

Origin is a real freak of an event, if they move it to sunday (only real option) and even decrease the hype by 10% it has the potential to cost NRL 10's of millions of dollars...

Wednesday just has a feel about it that its just right, reasons why it wont change;

Sunday night feels more like a school night,
people would be less likely to travel interstate to see games,
other TV stations have stronger shows up against it on Sunday,
would only have a 6 day build up,
AFL could in theory schedule a Sunday night big game against it,

How is this for a novel idea, put it on Saturday night. You know that night where the majority of the population is willing to stay up late and travel for large events.

I?m sure the ratings will take a bit of a hit but no less people we will be watching, they will be socialising and watching it at the pub, a mates place or whatever it may be and god forbid we are allowed to do that.

While we are at it, have 3 Saturday?s in a row whilst the NRL is on a break and add whatever other internationals, women?s games and junior origin?s you can. Decrease the rounds from 26 to 24 and scrap the rep weekend and lo and behold, each team gets a 3 week break and the season is exactly as long as it is now and each NRL team plays 24 regular season games at full strength (injuries aside).

Channel 9 might whinge and moan and try and hold back $10 million or whatever but who really cares? This obsession with matching or bettering the AFL deal at the expense of the integrity of the NRL competition is ridiculous, the deal will be over $1b regardless.

This dickhead said we'd only get 60k

I said he knows nothing
Once again, I am right.

Hahaha ah David, nice try.

Tickets reduced from $220 to $49 was required to get sales moving.

Ha! We are nearing a sell-out at Suncorp with NO DISCOUNTS (other than telstra 20% off that applied to all games). We are passionate.

Remember Dave - 8,000 in Canberra is better than 35,000 in Brisbane which means 30,000 in Brisbane is better than 70,000 in Sydney.

#fabulousdave logic.

People think that Origin on Wednesday has been like that since 1980.

Its actually been played on every night of the week, except Saturday, funnily enough.

During the SL era it was played on Friday nights, the standalone weekends it was Sunday, and its been on every weeknight in between.

That famous Mark Coyne last minute try game in 94, was on Monday night.

Not going to happen, and Saturday would be the WORST night. Every man and his dog goes out Saturday, well I know I do. Can we just leave it, it is fine as it is. We don't need a 3 week break, that is SO BORING! Not everyone wants to watch some International game not involving Australia. It is an Australian market, you suit the game for Australians.

Timmah, did you NOT see the weather? Honestly. Pouring rain, and in the worst stadium for wet weather. 11K was a fantastic effort considering the circumstances.

Nothing wrong with how we have it now. Bottom line you can turn on a TV and see NRL. That with the added promotion SOO brings is why it won't go anywhere anytime soon
