NQ side crowned State's best
NORTH Queensland's under-16 cricket team can lay claim to being the best in Queensland after claiming the State title in Brisbane yesterday.
In a must-win clash against Wide Bay, North Queensland scored a 39-run victory to leapfrog Darling Downs in the final standings. North Queensland made a slow start with the bat until Ryan Simkins arrived at the crease.
Supported by Andrew Martel (34), Simkins scored 42 to lead North Queensland to 10-154.
In reply, Wide Bay managed 11-115 as Issac Ling (4-10) and Martel (3-13) worked magic with the ball.
Four North Queenslanders were further rewarded for their efforts over the five-day carnival.
Ling, Martel, Jamie Heit and Chris Briody were all selected in the under-16 State development squad.
The win marks back-to-back titles for nine of the 12-member squad who were part of the successful North Queensland under-15 team last year.
Isaac Ling is no other than Kingling, congratulations to him
