Respected and experienced Rugby League administrator, Andrew Hill, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Rugby League World Cup 2017 (RLWC2017) Organising Committee.

The RLWC2017 Chairman, Dr George Peponis, announced the appointment today following the recent resignation of former Chief Executive Officer Michael Brown.

"We are delighted Andrew has accepted the role of Chief Executive Officer for the Rugby League World Cup 2017," Dr Peponis said.

"Andrew has a great connection with the game from the grassroots through to the international stage. He brings with him a technical understanding as well as vision for the strategic direction of the game not just in Australia, New Zealand and the region but around the world.

"Andrew's experience in working at the club level, as a senior executive with the NRL and the international federation brings a unique outlook to the game. It's this all-of-game perspective that we think is important in leading the Rugby League World Cup and will complement the skills of those already serving on the organising committee.

"I'd like to thank Maria Sykes for standing in as interim Chief Executive Officer while the Board finalised its position and am pleased she will continue in her role as Chief Operating Officer."

Hill has agreed to terms with the NRL that will allow him to stand aside from his position as General Manager League Integration and Game Development.

"Rugby League is well placed both domestically and internationally to experience growth in participation and popularity in the coming years and I see the Rugby League World Cup in 2017 as the ideal platform for us achieving this," Hill said.

"I am extremely honoured and proud to be involved in the tournament and am keen to build on the strong foundation that is in place.

"We will take next year's tournament to more fans than ever before and deliver the greatest Rugby League World Cup that will inspire communities and create a lasting legacy for the sport."

Andrew Hill will officially start his role with the RLWC2017 on 29 August 2016.

Good luck to him, haven't been impressed with his role growing the affiliated states but hopefully he gets this right.

50% of the work is done, he (Hill) needs to help promote the hell out of the tournament, make sure we get a good T.V deal and fill ALL stadiums to capacity!

Go to results & history to see the impressive growth of rugby league in WA schools. If this is the work of Hill then he needs congratulating. Have spoken to others from WA who say a lot of good juniors are coming out of WA as a result of its work in schools.

Perth Red doesn't find this impressive so don't bother people.

yeh we got a new logo, and lost our board and control of the game. Thank god we have a very capable CEO who is doing a marvellous job with little support. Ask the tassie guys how well the game is doing there, or SA.

Perhaps Tassie & SA needed a restructure like WA. And ittle support? How many NRL games have gone over to Perth of late, an international at the end of the year & world cup games, I think suggests growing support. You also didn't mention NT which had become a dogs breakfast and the NRL had to step in. Now they get NRL games & RLWC will come to town. The NT government is more confident in supporting the game financially. Sometimes a few steps back to go forward are needed. Hopefully Tassie can come back and the game in SA rebuilds with a more solid domestic comp. Apparently a lot of development outside of Adelaide has also taken place.

We've got NRL games in those places because of clubs, not the NRL. We got internationals because wa govt put its hands in its pocket to tune of $5mill for a rep package including origin and RLWC plus October test, not because f any NRL strategy. Agree about nt which had managed to run itself into debt, I suppose one out five isn't bad? If sackson ever leaves the NRLWA we are screwed, NRL funding levels here are a joke and most of our Jnr elite pathways is thanks to cash converters not the NRL.

Wa didn't need a restructure, it was travelling very well under a local board of good businessmen and rugby league people. NRL threatened to remove funding unless they handed over control.

Perth Red, you make a lot of assumptions. If I'm correct the NRL would have to give clubs permission to play in places like Perth and in most cases would encourage it.

I'm sure they do, but they dont pay anything towards it and don't have any sort of plan to ensure it happens. It is purely at the whims of the clubs and if they feel they can make $ out of it. To suggest it is some NRL strategy for growing the game in affiliated states is laughable. Thankfully clubs like Souths, and this year manly, need the money Perth can give them or we wouldnt have any nrl games happening here.
