St George Dragons legend, Billy Smith will be just inside the General Admission Entrance of Oki Jubilee Stadium this Sunday (25th July) from 2:00pm to 3:00pm to sign copies of his book, A SAINT FROM HEAD TO TOE.

A centre who turned into a champion half back, Billy Smith made 233 first grade appearances with St George from 1963-77, scoring 30 tries, 24 goals and 23 field goals for a total of 161 points. In all, he played 296 all grade matches which remains as a club record.

He represented NSW 15 times between 1964-1973 and played 18 Tests for Australia between 1964-1970. He played in six grand finals 1963-66, 1971 & 1975, winning on four occasions. He twice won the Harry Sunderland Medal for best Australian player in an Ashes series.

A player who never took a backward step, Billy Smith suffered a smashed jaw in 1969 before coming back to captain Australia in the 1970 World Cup.

Copies of the book, A SAINT FROM HEAD TO TOE, can be purchased from either the front desk of St George League's Club or the merchandise stores at OKI Kogarah Jubilee.

I finished reading the book today, was a good read and if u are interested -

he played 234 first grade games and 62 in reserve and thirds, he has the club record of 296 games.
Four First frade premierships 63, 64, 65, & 66 1st grade
definately one more in 3rd grade maybe more i forget lol

Represented City and Captained Aus

he started playing footy as a hooker, then a centre and Ken Kearney changed his position to half.....he played at the dragons for 16 years. awesome

this bloke was a fair dinkum champ and by a country mile our best ever half back.
As much as i liked Slippery this bloke was two grades up/

One funny story in about 75 they went to Penfolds on a big drink, the club bus was taken and after several hours of free wine somebody asked Billy if he could drive the bus. Billy was a truck driver sooo he went and moved the bus behind one of the big sheds. He then jumped in the lake near the wine tasting.

Of course when two other blokes saw Billy coming out of the lake they told everybody else that Billy sunk the Bus...... LOL
Fleming got the shits and left the entire team at the winery rofl...

Well worth the price :)

Chesterton called him Peter Pan...

After he retired he took on coaching at Cronulla for 2 years when Norm Provan was their coach... Norm left and the book said he could of coached 1st's but he went with Norm.

O and he owes that smashed jaw to John Oneil, but they got pissed together one night and Billy won on points so the book says lol

Again a good read :)
