TIGERS CUTS SPORT FUNDS the balmain tigers leagues club has blamed
the poker machine tax for its decision to cut $100,000 in grants to local sporting clubs. clubs like little athletics,hockey,netball and cricket clubs.the clubs c.e.o danny munk,said it would review the decision,but hoped the government would reverse its decision on the pokey tax.the club had given $2.5 million to other groups,but its obligation includes junior league.the club had debts of $7 MILLION and plans for a new club were on ice,he said.it had been like"living on a credit card"believing things would improve,but says the pokey tax would make things cut back even more. -geesche jacobsen s.m.h 5/12/03.
