This year is not the first time Brisbane have stumbled into 8th spot through no fault of their own. In fact, they've made rather a habit of other results falling their way and granting them an undeserved finals berth. Let's hope the same result eventuates as the other 4 times and they get bounced out by the far more deserving and vastly superior Cowboys.
1999: 1 win and 1 draw form their first 10 games, then benefited from a Penrith-style easy draw and other results falling their way to beat Canberra to 8th by a point.
2003: Lost their last 7 on the trot after an arsey golden point win over Melbourne, including to a reserve grade Dragons team in round 26. Once again, other results went their way and they limped in ahead of Parramatta.
2007: This one takes the cake. Took 8th place by differential over the Tigers with an 11-13 record. Very top heavy ladder that year, with cheating scum Melbourne and Manly being streets ahead of everyone else.
2012: Lost 6 in a row before a final round win over Penrith and other results once again falling their way handed them an unearned 8th.
2014: Naturally, Parrmatta and the Warriors bottled it as the footy gods once again gave the donkeys' bollocks a good fondle. As the old saying goes, it's always better to be lucky than good.
And before anyone states the obvious, yes I'm butthurt. ;-)
