The Annual General Meeting of Canowindra Rugby League Football Club Inc was held last Wednesday evening.
The meeting was well attended by a cross section of the community to lend their support to the Club members' efforts to foster rugby league in the town.
The notice of motion to have the club remain in the Woodbridge Cup was passed by a majority vote following much discussion and full and fair debate on the issue. Many spoke of long term viability problems, the financial burden of three teams and loss of the club's infrastructure should the steering committee's bid to field in Group 11 fail. It is not a matter of just returning to the Woodbridge Cup and expected to be accepted back into the competition. The business of the Annual General Meeting then followed with the annual reports showing a successful year of competition for the Tigers, winning the Consolation Cup.
The election of officers for 2004 showed a firm commitment to the club with the patrons, President, Secretary and Treasurer all re-elected unopposed.
Patrons: Dick Earsman, Cec Slattery and John Slattery. President: John Chittick. Secretary: Pam Cooper. Treasurer: Leanne Stevenson. Vice Presidents, Senior – Lawrence Parrish; Junior – George Delaney.
The club now invites applications for the coaching positions for both the first grade and open junior teams, together with managers and sports trainers for both teams. Players and intending players are also invited to contact the club to show their interest so we may assess our playing strength for 2004. Many of last year's team have already signed on to play including last year's Woodbridge Cup Bob Williams Courage Award winner Ashley Tarrant.
A Players' Muster Day will be held in mid January so keep watch for the date.
