Thinking back to when the four new teams joined the competition in 1995 its quite interesting to think that it ended up being the Cowboys who would be the first of the new boys to win a competition. I remember there was a school of thought that the Auckland Warriors would dominate in time because they had New Zealand all to themselves to fish for talent and had feverish support. The Crushers was a dads army on the field but the overwhelming belief was that they would be strong in time and had strong initial support in 1995. Reds although expensive to run had some quality players and their future looked bright in the new league frontier. Funny how things turn out, the most unlikely of the four (by a long way) would be the first to win a title.
