This is bullshit. The NRL has discretional funding for these sort of marquee players. Wait until Moffo sees this, there'll be a new John Grant thread in no time.

Ben Hunt commits to Broncos until end of 2017 by signing 2-year contract extension

http://www.broncos.com.au/news/2014/10/01/hunt_locks_in_for_three_more_years.html

BEN Hunt has capped off the biggest few days of his rugby league career by signing a new two-year extension with the NRMA Insurance Broncos. The new contract, which includes an upgrade of his current deal for 2015, means Hunt will be in a Broncos’ jersey until at least the end of the 2017 NRL season.

It continues a sensational week for the 24-year-old, who on Monday was named to play halfback in his first international for the Prime Ministers XIII against Papua New Guinea on October 12. That evening he featured heavily in the NRL’s night of nights, finishing equal fourth in the Dally M count in Sydney, and confirming his ascension to the list of the top players in the game.

Now Hunt has his future secured with the club he has played all his senior football with for the next three years. “It has certainly been a week to remember,” sad Hunt today. “I was really surprised to be named in the Prime Minister’s XIII team and then felt honoured to be mentioned alongside guys like Johnathan Thurston, Jarryd Hayne and Sam Burgess at the Dally M awards. Now to have my future sorted for the next three years at this great club makes it even better. I am really happy that this is done now, as I will be able to have a break some time before Christmas and then start working on a big pre-season for 2015.”

Broncos’ chief executive Paul White said securing a player of Hunt’s calibre for an extended period was wonderful news for the members and supporters of the club. “Ben has shown this year why so many people had confidence in him to be able to develop to where he has,” said White.
“He was recruited by the late Cyril Connell at 15 and has been with us ever since, which is now the best part of 10 years. This contract extension is a reward for Ben, but also a reward for the club for the development the Broncos have put into him as both a player and a person.”

This is great, it's been reported it's about 2 mil for Hunt and Oates till the end of 2017, which is a bargain for the pair. Bennett's influence reaping it's rewards already.

Pretty sure Jerome Guisset would have scored plenty of tries after he went back.

It's a shame for the NRL actually. A presence from around the world might help to show insular fans and commentators that rugby league does actually exist outside Sydney. At least for now.

Agreed. The more imports the better.

Eto Nabuli signed with Dragons for 2 years.

Preparing for Morris to depart?

It's not official from the club yet, but was mentioned 2 days ago during the Panthers v Pride game. Apparently Freddie got a text from Mary. If it does happen, just a backup for Morris & Nightingale as other outside backs will be leaving.

Melbourne Storm forward Tim Glasby will remain with the Club for 2015 and 2016.

The North Queensland Cowboys today released Glasby on compassionate grounds, from the two year contract he signed in July so he can remain in Victoria.

Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi said, “The Cowboys have been very understanding of Tim’s situation and both head coach Paul Green and football manager Peter Parr have been very professional in the way they have handled the matter.

“With Tim’s family decision to remain in Victoria, it’s a bonus to have Tim remain with the Club, particularly considering his development over the last 12 months,” Ponissi said.

Glasby also commented on his appreciation towards the Cowboys for their understanding.

“I’m very grateful to the Cowboys for understanding my change in circumstance and for working with me to find a solution,” Glasby said.

“I’m also very appreciative to Melbourne Storm for their support; I’m looking forward to season 2015 with Storm.”
