DRAGONS JUNIORS THREAD

News Corp scribe running his ruler over some junior reps that may be ready for the big time. The only Dragons mentioned were Nick Tsougranis and Finau Latu, no Loko Jr yet his Junior Kangaroo bookend team mate La Salle Va'a was listed. No Jake Halangahu yet he took out the MOM in Ball Cup GF this year, no Corey Ackers, Hamish Stewart, Jesse Williams or King Togia or that mighty mite Peckham-Harris.

Not sure this bloke is future FG material given the plethora of promising boys in our Pathways. Surely if we keep them, Latu, Halangahu, Ackers, Meafou, Stewart are ahead of him. Nick looks a good honest toiler, but that is about it.
He's already done alright in NSW Cup at a young age. He really goes after the game, quite ferocious. He's a better player than the SG Ball kids are right now. That could change quickly as they are at the age when improvement can be rapid but there's no guarantee that they'll ever surpass him.

Nick T is the opposite of a toiler.. fire and brimstone stuff.. went off in U19 origin last year.. he should have Russell or Sherebs spot as soon as possible in NSW Cup.. and let Halangahu step up to take his vacant JF spot.

Agree Rev. Nick T looked right at home late last year when he played 8 games in reserve grade and was starting 2nd row for the last 3 or 4 games.

He’s only 19, will be 20 in the next couple of months. Strong, has a big motor and loves the contact defensively which some of these youngsters lack unfortunately. Has fantastic front on technique.

He goes good and has a bright future if he keeps his trajectory going. Gone from ball to Flegg to reserve grade quite quickly so clearly the club see something in him moving forward.

He may have been confusing NickyT with Egan, who is a bit of a toiler but I think Egan will just need more time to find his place in the game.. maybe its in the middle yet.. he does all the hard stuff though and still very young.

Then compare that with Halangahu is more of a Fifita mould massive unit who looks like a tree trunk, I dont think he will get Dave Fifita big, but there are similarities. 3 very different 2nd rowers...

City v Country Under 18s Boys, Saturday 18 May 12.35pm Leichhardt Oval:
City: Hayden Buchanan (Illawarra Steelers), Alex Challenor (Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks), Jezaiah Funa-Luta (Parramatta Eels), Jacob Halangahu (St George Dragons), Jack Hilliar (Newcastle Knights), Cody Hopwood (Newcastle Knights), Finau Latu (St George Dragons), Luke Laulilii (Western Suburbs Magpies), Hokafonu Lemoto (Penrith Panthers), Heamasi Makasini (Western Suburbs Magpies), Zaidas Muagututia (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs), Kye Raven (Penrith Panthers), Ratu Rinakama (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs), Toby Rodwell (Sydney Roosters), Cyrus Stanley-Traill (St George Dragons), Connor Votano (Newcastle Knights), Nikora Williams (Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks), Mitchell Woods (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs).

Dragons a touch unlucky to not have more chosen. Surprised Jake and Finau are still age eligible. Note how many squad members are of Pacific Islander decent.

There's also an Illawarra boy, Zechariah Taufa, in the Country side. Must have missed out on SG Ball a year young. Should be Steelers SG Ball next year.

U18 would exclude a bunch of the 19yr olds that we have in our SG system, I assume this means none of these guys will play U19 origin, but perhaps Tonga, Williams and co will?
