Fernando Alonso: F1's youngest ever world champion...

Well... after 7 years of Schumacher-Ferrari dominance... the scarlet Scuderians' reign comes to an end... as 24 year old Fernando Alonso claims the crown...

As an ardent Formula 1 Fan, and one of the biggest McLaren-Mercedes supporters one could ever come across, 2005 comes across as rather another year of "what if?" and "if only" as Kimi Raikkonen's championship credentials were thwarted due to persistant reliability issues with the (pace-wise) class of the field MP4/20, which has dominated for the last 12 races...

Unfortunately, the miserable start to the year (as a result of incredibly poor luck for Raikkonen and team-mate Montoya), ensured that Alonso, who had already built up a sizable gap by Rd.5, reigned supreme over the remainder of the season...

Fortunately for me, McLaren finally took the lead in the Constructors' Championship following the team's first 1-2 finish since 2000 (Hakkinen & Coulthard), and remain confident of consolidating their Drivers' Championship loss with the highest team honour...

With 2 races left, Alonso has secured the Drivers' Championship; having a 23-point gap, with only 20 points maximum on offer...

However, the Contructors; championship remains open with McLaren holding a 2-point lead over Renault...

Congratulations Fernando Alonso

Yeah Go Alonso the Champ, The Best and fastest F1 Driver.

I have to disagree...

Kimi - 7 wins.

Fernando - 6 wins.

And that's not to mention the amount of times Alonso has profitted from Raikkonen's poor reliability at times - four times!

In fact, I'm even inclined enough to say that Kimi's teammate, Montoya, is better than Alonso...
