Results

Brisbane Bulls v Shenzhen Sharkitohs

Shenzhen's unbeaten run has come to an end after a thrilling clash with Brisbane today in front of a big Queensland crowd, the two sides putting on a real attacking clinic as the Bulls scored a big 38-30 win over the previously unstoppable Chinese side.

Kevin Sinfield was sublime in organising the Brisbane attack, while Tim Grant was a monster for Shenzhen as he did his chances of NSW selection plenty of good with a rampaging double.

Brisbane: Matt Moylan, Leroy Cudjoe, Kevin Sinfield 2, David Nofoaluma, and Alex Glenn. Sinfield 7/7
Shenzhen: Michael Gordon, Shaun Johnson, Greg Eastwood, and Tim Grant 2. Gordon 2/2. Parker 3/3
HT Score: 18-18
Dally M: Kevin Sinfield (Brisbane) 3, Tim Grant (Shenzhen) 2, and Shaun Johnson (Shenzhen) 1.

----

Springfield Wildcats v Sydney Vipers

A 75th minute try to Joseph Paulo, his second of the game, has seen Springfield escape with a narrow 14-12 win against the newly relocated and new look, Sydney Vipers. The away side looked to have victory all but sewn up leading 12-8 heading into full time, but Paulo's try and Hodkinson's conversion snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for the US side.

Springfield: Joseph Paulo 2. Hodkinson 3/5
Sydney: Thomas Leuluai. Croker 4/4
HT Score: 0-6
Dally M: Joseph Paulo (Springfield) 3, Lachlan Coote (Sydney) 2, and Brent Tate (Springfield) 1.

----------

New Zealand Churr Bros v New England Celtic

It's been a season and a half in the making, but last year's two strongest sides have finally crossed paths and the clash was suitably epic.

Things certainly started out ominously for the out of form Tamworth side early on, as the home side raced in three unanswered tries inside the first fifteen minutes to set up a potentially game-winning 18-0 lead. Tries to Origin hopefuls, Boyd Cordner and Josh Dugan heading into halftime restored some respectability to the scoreline to make it 18-12.

New Zealand looked to steady the ship shortly after halftime with a penalty to make it 18-12, but it was here that a new look New England halves pairing of Cameron Smith and Gareth Widdop produced some magic. The last fifteen minutes saw Celtic snatch the lead through a pair of tries before field goals to Widdop and Smith and a late penalty sealed a memorable comeback for the visitors - triumphing 30-20.

New Zealand: Bryson Goodwin 2 and Carl Ablett. Goodwin 4/4
New England: Josh Dugan 2, BJ Leilua, and Cameron Smith. Smith 6/6. Smith 1 fg. Widdop 1 fg.
HT Score: 18-12
Dally M: Cameron Smith (New England) 3, Eorl Crabtree (New England) 2, and BJ Leilua (New England) 1.
Crowd: 19,419

South Canberra Knights v Raymond Terrace Tanks

South Canberra have fired a warning shot across the bows of higher placed Brisbane and Shenzhen today, the ACT side rampaging to a 42-14 win over the Raymond Terrace Tanks. David Williams reminded New South Wales selectors what he was capable of, while Brett Hodgson chimed in with 22 points of his own in a stellar performance from the old warhorse.

The game was not as one sided as the scoreline might indicate, with half-time seeing things at 18-10 in favour of the home side after a spirited showing from the visitors from the Hunter.

South Canberra: Brett Hodgson 2, David Williams 3, Tim Simona, and Ben Barba. Hodgson 7/7
Raymond Terrace: Young Tonumepiea, Jodie Broughton, and Dallas Johnson. Pearce 0/2. Walsh 1/1
HT Score: 18-10
Dally M: David Williams (Knights) 3, Brett Hodgson (Knights) 2, and Tim Simona (Knights) 1.
Crowd: 33,771

Mu'a Saints v Bovenendvankeelafsnysleegte RLFC

Mu'a have returned to the winner's circle today with a 32-22 win against the visiting BRLFC, but they did it tougher than they'd have liked after having set up a seemingly unassailable 32-6 lead at half-time. Three tries from the South Africans after the break and some much improved defense had nervous looks being exchanged in the Mu'a coach's box, but ultimately time played against the struggling Seffers.

Mu'a: Clint Newton, Shaun Fensom, Cooper Cronk, Lance Hohaia, and Luke Bailey 2. Norman 0/1. Inu 4/5
BRLFC: Ryan Atkins, Willie Manu, and Brenton Lawrencen 2. Lyon 3/4
HT Score: 32-6
Dally M: Luke Bailey (Saints) 3, Corey Norman (Saints) 2, and Shaun Fensom (Saints) 1.
Crowd: 20,675

St John's Crusaders v Multiple Scoregasms

Professional rugby league came to the Vatican City today, but there were no miracles as the newly relocated side slumped to an expected 36-16 defeat at the hands of the visitors from Victoria.

It was not all doom and gloom for the team representing the Holy See, who fought valiantly back from 26-0 down at half-time with a considerably improved second half.

St John's: Clint Greenshields, Adam Reynolds, and Michael Lawrence. A. Reynolds 2/3
Scoregasms: Jorge Taufua, Ben Crooks, Daly Cherry-Evans, Michael Dobson, Zeb Taia, and Andy Lynch. Cherry-Evans 4/7
HT Score: 0-26
Dally M: Jorge Taufua (Scoregasms) 3, Michael Dobson (Scoregasms) 2, and Ben Westwood (Scoregasms) 1.
Crowd: 4,987

Newcastle Crusade v Oregon Timberwolves

All three of the new members of the FFBRL tasted defeat today and, as in the other games, the newcomers gave a good account of themselves in today's visit to Newcastle - going down 22-16 thanks to a late Manu Vatuvei try for the home side.

Oregon lead 14-12 after a tense first half, and looked on their way to a maiden victory until the late Vatuvei try and Mantelleto conversion sealed a vital win for the top eight bound Crusade.

Newcastle: Manu Vatuvei, Todd Carney, and Billy Slater. Mantelleto 3/3. Carney 2/2
Oregon: Daniel Vidot and Dave Taylor. Richards 4/4
HT Score: 12-14
Dally M: James Maloney (Oregon) 3, Daniel Vidot (Oregon) 2, and Greg Bird (Oregon) 1.
Crowd: 2,000

In hindsight, I've done well to play my team out of form around Origin :sarcasm:

I'm going to struggle to name a team this week.

I have Hayne, Hodkinson, Gallen, Lawrence, Scott, Thaiday, McGuire and Tate on Origin duty and according to the game thread I have McQueen, Roby and Thurston injured. (McGuire's injured as well, either way I miss him).

Argh, the perils of never cleaning out the folder you store archives in. Must have had last year's files in there as well.

Working on a fix now. Rapidshare is struggling.

Where's your QLD squad, micky? I know you have the right files.

Of course they're missing from your formguide, AFS. Check the City and Country formguides...
