The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

The Canberra Raiders are owned and run by the Raiders Group (registered name of Canberra District Rugby Football League Club Limited) who outside of the NRL team also own and run Raiders Belconnen, Raiders Gungahlin, Raiders Weston, The Mawson Club, Queanbeyan Leagues Club and The Grounds Braddon.

All in all, the organisation is very embedded in the ACT & surrounding areas in ways beyond just the NRL Franchise and the Junior League.

Whilst the group has made some investments in Queensland over the years, like the Toowoomba Sports Club & Logan Recreation Club, neither of these entities were or are run by the Raiders.

Considering how heavily embedded it is, you would have to say that it would have to take something monumental for the club to ever consider moving out of the area, even if Bruce Stadium started falling apart.

The Brumbies are in a similar position, being owned by the ACT & SNSW RUL. Neither organisation is setup to operate elsewhere (or shown any desire to) and arguably the only way either club is moving away would be if the NRL or Australian Rugby took away the license.

This is different than the Giants, who are fully owned by the AFL commission and literally have nothing tying them to Canberra other than a contract with the ACT Government

We have a pretty swanky training facility right in the center of the city too I believe...

400 teams playing in the district comps this year with over 6500 participants. Great to see all the senior comps with full lists of 9 teams in each across 7 grades including from 19s up, women’s and tag.

Ideal scenario is they take the roof off, rebuild the western stand to match the rest and fill in the top corners with seats, capacity 65k give or take. Replace the roof over the stands. Retractable roof optional bonus, could design the roof to retro-fit one later.

Probably unlikely unless the allocate most or all of the $1b to Suncorp. Either way good to see some noise coming from RL circles about it.

Agreèd, you'd think capacity is more important that a bigger roof.

Got a reduced rent deal because of that then lied and said the govt didn’t do the upgrades and they weren’t entitled to move to Allianz

Yeah I really rated Solly when he first started off but the smoke and mirrors he has played since this Accor deal has got me changing my opinion. Never a straight answer at our last AGM it was the excuse, deal was not going to be same as Accor.
