We all know he's a gun player, and he's currently killing it up on the Coast, but could he be inadvertently geniusing the progress of the club?

Game in and game out he's getting a squillion possessions, partly because he's infinitely better and more experienced than his team mates and partly because he can monopolise much of the pill due to his standing in the game and captaincy of the club.

In the here and now its good for the club as it helps get them close to competitiveness and helps with marketing the team. What does it mean, long-term, however, for the younger Suns midfielders who are constantly living deep in the shadows of the supernova that is, Gazza?

shouldn't be a problem in 2 years time, alot of talk of him heading back where he belongs

while he maybe blocking the path of a you one or two no doubt he is also teaching them alot at the same time

I think his moving north was good for the Suns, as can you imagine how crap they'd be whithout their pin up boy

Tough one. Although he's getting loads of the ball, I think off the field he'd be worth his weight in gold. Those kids would be getting some great help and advice. Would love MW junior to spend a year with him.

Having Pendles as captain last week and abblett as vice in dreamteam. Won't be making that mistake this week.

He's a superstar and if anything has shocked in his ability to take his game fwd since moving to the GC. Wont be returning to the Cattery (unfortunately) as the suns will be chery ripe in a few years time for a genuine assault on the flag. Too many talented youngsters who will be anywhere from 60-100 game players when Gazza's contract is coming to an end. And that generally is an age at which a playing group starts to prosper.

McKenna has mentioned that Gary will be spending more time up forward when he returns from injury as a way of accelerating the development of their young midfielders.

Very sensible move, for mine.

They're still going to be losing a lot whether its with Ablett firing out of the centre, or with a clump of youngsters learning the craft.

They won't be winning regularly until they get the latter to a required level of competence and that can only happen by playing them regularly without the safety blanket.

Don't think he is geniusing their growth too much. What they lose out on in actual touching of the ball, they get from watching and learning about work ethic and professionalism.
