Great Challenge Cup draw for French clubs

The draw for round 3 of the Challenge Cup, on March 10-11, has been announced. It is good news for the French clubs who have been matched with not very strong English clubs. All the French teams play away.

Toulouse Olympique vs York City Knights

Pia Donkeys vs Blackpool Panthers

Limoux Grizzlies vs Gateshead Thunder.

Even better news for the Celtic Crusaders, who I expect will partner Toulouse in entering Super League in 2009. The Welsh club, which today defeated NL1 side Leigh in the Northern Rail Cup, will play an amateur side (yet to be determined) in its CC round.

The Russian club Moscow Lokomotiv will go to Swinton.

Good chance to see the outsiders go further into the later rounds, lets hope they can all get a win or two.

Limoux is much weaker than last year, having lost Ferriol to Catalans for starters. That game may be close. Pia and Toulouse should win easily.

Celtic Crusaders, coming off a big win over top NL1 side Leigh, will thrash their opponents, whoever they are.

The Swinton- Moscow Lokomotiv game will tell us whether Russian ruugby league is going anywhere.

Would you please let go of that theory. Celtic Crusaders will NOT be a Super League team in 2009, it's less than two years away. Give em ten years at least.

For what its worth - here's my view

Limoux - up against Gateshead a small 2D side with pretensions. Limoux should win this.

Pia - up against Blackpool - with the Skolars one of the 2 weakest sides on the professional side of the draw. Pia MUST win this.

Toulouse - up against York, definitely one of the strongest sides in the 2D. On past Cup form Toulouse should win but don't expect a walkover
