Here is a hot tip you will never ever ever see asian teams get anything but flat decks here. Cricket australia lost way too much money against india around 2010 when they got smashed on some pitches with a bit of life in them.

The pitches will likely be a bit better for England

Yeah it sucks. And tbh I don't understand it at all...India are more than happy to prepare gravel pits and smash us when we go over there, why not use our pitches to our advantage? Especially India....it's not like Virat Kohli is going to struggle overly with the extra bounce and seam. They are a much better side than 2010

It's part of the Sutherland effect IMO. CA cares more about the money, as yout hinted at, than the actual team itself

Its been going on for a while during the infamous 08 series the curators swapped out the pitch at perth because they thought Australia would bounce india out. We got smashed.

f**k the poms. F**k the barmy army , if we don't churn out roads it will be 5-0 to us.
Starc and Haze, along with either Patto or Cummins tear them to pieces

Won't matter if Australia turns out roads and Starc and Hazlewood break down. Possible the way the muppets coaching staff mismanage their work loads. Cummins is a myth never heard of him.

In all seriousness to win in Australia you need to have a really good team or Australia have to be a dreadful.
We haven't got a really good team at the moment nor a well driven committed one like 2010/11.
Australia had their tumble last year and have patched up their line up.They will most likely get spanked in India but dust themselves up and re set themselves at home on roads. Only a mass injury pandemic to a few of their players would even things up and turn the contest our way.

Joe Root named England's 80th test captain.

Interesting that Australia have only had 45 test captains in the same time frame (England have played more tests).

I wonder what the stats are from the Border era onwards. It still would have lopsided before obviously...

But I think AB really turned the Australian captaincy into a revered position with his long, esteemed tenure.

Since then there's been a bit of a lineage of Border-Taylor-Waugh-Ponting-Clarke-Smith, all who had and will have long stints.

I bet England have gone through a few more captains in that time.

The only way I'd give us a chance is if we picked Pietersen which of course will never happen.

Our batting line up is so thin and has relied on batting deep to post decent scores.

I knew Pietersen is a dick but f**k, I want to win. Cook wasn't a winner otherwise he'd have demanded KP in his side too.

I think it's been harsh on Cork. He got bamboozled by India but hells bells they just took care of Mehedi, Taimim, Kamrul and Sounya Sarkar on a super highway that turned into a dust bowl FFS. Vale Alistair, a great captaincy reign.

I particularly loved him erming his way through every interview in 13/14, particularly the ODI in Brisbane.

Other than that, solid bat.

Yes, but the Watto and Gilly selections were a one-off and a one-off and a couple due to the long term captain (Waugh, Ponting, Clarke) injured.

Border never missed a test. Nor did Taylor IIRC.

On the ashes 94/95 tour I think there were 4 captains in that squad. Atherton, and exes Gooch Gatting and Stewart.

The only time I recall anything similar was Greg chappell and Hughes co capt type thing and punter with Clarke.

Mike Brearly, selected as a captain who could bat a bit. First time I ever heard of some one being selected purely to captain a team and he was a pretty average batsman.

31 tests as captain, winning 17, only lost 4

The captain watto post was a joke.

Not as funny a joke as Captain Emburey, Captain Cowdrey Butcher or Captain Trescothick but still a joke.

I thought as much.

But it does highlight Australia do have captaincy reigns with only a couple of injury fill ins over thirty years. It further highlights we generally pick the right person for the job.

KP is past it for the longer form. He is now a hit & giggle specialist. He doesn't have the attention span any more to play the longer formats.
He came out here last time when England got murdered and did stuff all on the pitch. Averaging a piss poor 29.40.
He was a special player but not any more.
