A Clean Sweep!
By IanG

Well as we know by now the Aussie Cricketers have restored some national pride by dismantling the West Indies in a clean sweep of their three test match series. Though the Windies did show some improvement in the third test. I can see their points of view when they say they don’t have enough Tour Matches to get use it the conditions. If they had, had a few more lead up matches to the tour then we might have seen a more competitive series. It was also nice to see Brian Lara back in touch. So there were quite a few good signs for the Windies in that regard.

I do believe that Australia would still have won but nowhere near as easily as they did. With all the cricket that is played in this day and age, touring teams don’t get anywhere as many practice matches as they use to. Even earlier this season when the ICC World XI was in Australia for the Johnny Walker Super Series, the only warm up they World XI had was a one dayer against Victoria. I dare say it’s these reason as to why the South Africans have asked for some extra practice matches before the start of the Test Series.

I’m now starting to wonder how not only the South African Test Series will go but before that of course the Chappell/Hadlee Trophy and who will be the first ones to hold it. As we might remember the First Series of this kind last year finished up one all after the total wash out of the third match. So I guess you could say the Trophy is still vacant.

However I don’t want to give the impression that I’m being Un-Australian by saying that I want to see a more competitive series from Australia’s opponents, of course I want to Australia win as any Aussie would, but even the most patriotic of us would like to see Australia taken to the limit so to speak.

Even though I’ve highlighted this before I could see where he was coming from when Mick Jagger made his famous comment suggesting that watching Australia play cricket being like watching a porno movie, simply because you know what’s going to happen. Speaking of him, even though England may have the Ashes, it looks like the Poms are going to get a hammering at the hands of Pakistan. If it happens I’ll have a very big grin on my face. If it really is as Mick says then there will be another clean sweep in New Zealand. Hopefully that’ll shut Mark Richardson and Company up.
