Intrust Super Cup 2015 Predictions

Round 1 teams were released yesterday and I've got to say I've never seen so many quality players in this comp. It really is going from strength to strength and there looks to be a lot of contenders this year.

Easts now have Qld residents 5/8 Shaun Nona, and again look a strong outfit. I think it may be third time lucky for them this year. A lot will depend on whether they can keep Munster and Nona, I wouldn't be surprised for either to see quite a bit of NRL this year. They've also lost some quality players to the Sunny Coast, who have a good side and will make their way up the ladder this year.

Seems to me like the Cowboys, Storm and Broncos have spread their players far more evenly across the teams than previous years. It's good to see.

Darkhorse for me would have to be Ipswich. They may not have the big names but they have kept pretty much their entire squad from last year, when they were close to knocking off Wynnum at home in the finals. Always the most entertaining team to watch, they will be quietly confident this year.

Premiers: Easts
Wooden Spoon: Mackay
Top 5: Easts, Pride, Wynnum, Ipswich, Townsville

You could be right about PNG dropping, they have 9 debutantes in their team this week.

Sunny Coast are definitely underrated, paying around $2.35 at home against Norths this week..

Maybe an Admin could change the title of this thread and make it into a general Intrust Super Cup forum that can continue through the year? Not sure how to do that

Thought I'd throw my predictions here as well.

Premiers: Wynnum-Manly
Wooden Spoon: Capras
Top 5: Wynnum-Manly, Easts, Townsville, Ipswich, Tweed
Player of the Season: Cameron Munster
Biggest Improvers: Sunny Coast
Biggest Drop: Pride
Darkhorse: Tweed

As for my team Redcliffe, mid table is my prediction. Hopefully, they'll do better than that but there's so many good sides in the comp this year. It's good to have Sundays off finally so I will able watch many more games than I have the previous 7 years.

Not totally a surprise for Wynnum supporters. Mackay had beaten Wynnum in their previous four meetings in 2013 and 2014. They seem to be the Gulls' bogey team.

Last night was much like last year's game at Kougari - Wynnum dominated the first half but didn't have that many points to show for it, leading 10-0 at half time. The Mackay defence frustrated Wynnum in the second half, they just couldn't get over in the first 10 minutes of the half when they had a lot of ball near the Mackay line.

Once Mackay scored themselves, Wynnum had no answer and were poor for the last 30 minutes. Possibly the effect of a very hard game in the heat last week against Easts but also having a 5/8 who won't run to the line doesn't help.

Deserved win to Mackay based on great defence.
