London Borncos Website said:As London Broncos core supporter base accepts and embraces the new move, and the loss of their club colours, name and crest, there has been some resistance to the loss of the Broncos furry mascots, Buck and his young sidekick, Dusty.
These two loveable characters have been centre stage on match day throughout the life of the Broncos and are an unmistakable talent. They were voted Super Leagues best match day mascots in 2004.
But should they be included in a club which is about to take on a new identity? This is yet to be decided, as Broncos CEO Nic Cartwright explains:
"We understand the emotional tie our fans have with Buck and Dusty and this is something we have thought long and hard about."
"There are two schools of thought on this. If we are to lose the Broncos name then surely the horses must go as well? On the other hand, our friends at NEC Harlequins have a couple of cuddly bears which dont really have a lot to do with jokers and jesters."
Unlike the Broncos colours, crest and name, these two are living, breathing characters."
They have a personality, and if our fans want them as part of match day at the Stoop next year, then we will give them every chance to make the move.
Should Buck and Dusty run out as Harlequins RL mascots next season, there will be a few conditions that first need to be met.
1. Do Buck and Dusty actually want to make the move to QuinsRL?
2. Will a sponsor come forth to cover the additional expenses?
3. Will the public vote to keep them?
Buck and Dusty will make their own mind up over the coming weeks after taking a closer look at the new facilities and the new kit they will have to wear, and after they meet the NEC Harlequins mascots, Harley and Charley.
Their decision will also surely be affected by the public vote.
As for the sponsorship do you know of anyone who can help here? If B & D do wish join us, it will increase match day expenditure having four mascots instead of two. As a sponsorship entity they do make commercial sense a clean family-friendly image, not to mention the terrific exposure they get when out on the streets or on Sky Sports.
Now for the public vote you decide. Place your vote here.
Should wish to have a word with either Buck or Dusty, you can do so at Griffin Park this Saturday night. It might even be a good idea, with the Sky cameras at the game, to do some banners ' Save Buck & Dusty!'...
You decide...
