Manly vs Melb - Player Analysis

D.Williams - Defence is as bad as Eric Grothe's. How hard is it to mark your own man?!

Matai - Good strong runner. Good solid tackles when oppostion is running at him but cant handle quick and/or strong attacking opposing players like Inglis and Slater that can run around him. Gets caught out to his outside. Why they dont make him a forward?!

Lyon - shouldnt have played the game. Never a 5/8. Can run but bad decison making and passing game.

Orford - never been a fan. Shocking decisions. Attacking kicks arent consistent enough. And so what if he can put a few big hits on bigger men! His tackle misses and misreads are too costly!

G.Stewart - tries hard but is pretty predictable in attack. ie draw and pass.

Bailey - I see him as a very slow 5/8, so hes no good. hes not strong enough to be on the team with his go-forward or for his try scoring/assist, or his defence alone. So should be left out even though he isnt bad in any one category.

Kite - Played better this game than most game this year.

Perry - Shocker of a game.

Ballin- Not really an attacking hooker like LeStrange and Smith etc. Solid in defence but we need one that can attack.

Foran - should start as 5/8. Consistently runs onto the ball and backs up.

Cuthbo - Looks dangerous in attack. Keep him on interchange if we still alive next week.

JWH - Wasnt a fan before of his from his dropped balls etc but had a good strong game.

Summary - Gus always gets it right with his analysis. Manly dont lack intensity esp in the first half. They were on top of the Storm in stages of the 1st half, but look like a headless chook on 5th tackle, ruining the set and releasing the pressure. The blame must rest on the playmakers ie. Orford and Hasler. When Orford runs to the line and shows the ball, the outside backs will follow and the defence will be in 2 minds with little time to react to a quick pass or dummy. When Orford runs sideways, the opposition waits till he makes a decision and has time to react as he's still 10m from them.
Has Hasler been telling Orford and the outside backs how to attack?!

Orford has predictable attack :
1. Crossfield bomb/chip/grubber
2. reverse kick towards posts for Stewart
3. Big man short/decoy with Stewart out back deep/sweeping

Manly dont have a form problem. They've got fundamental problems that they've had all year. Manly with all their talent should be in a golden period like the Storm the last few years. Its embarassing how Melb losing so many good players is still better than a Manly side that should be heading up, not down after one year. They shouldnt be in a rebuilding phase just after one year from winning the premeirship! Somehow I think that another good coach can help this team perform better than they have been this year...

Yeah, the biggest thing in Chambers game is his mouth...
If Manly had a coach like Bellamy, Gus, or bennett, theyd win this years GF hands down.

Look i think foran would do wonders if he was actually given a go in a 5/8th role.. he doesnt get to play his full game with orford etc dictating.. then again tonight orford went missing and we got trapped with the ball on the 5th on a few occasions..

Orford was to blame for tonight, no leadership or direction.

How many seasons will it be before someone realises that when the team is not playing to potential then Orford is not your man to get them out of this ??...it was the same at Storm.

Orford is not a Thurston and cannot score points when needed.

Foran was given no opportunity to run some plays.

Williams got found out defensively..Inglis simply ran at him rather than Farrrar and co in the early stages of the game and this put them on top.

When manly are behind on the scoreboard Orford is the worst player in history he can never handle pressure Orford is only good when the teams ahead. Also watmough always starts the game with costly errors bad play the balls knock ons penalties etc hes been doing it all year he costs us more games than he wins. Hes got mental issues. The rest of the team played like they didnt know each other . Maybe cause we keep changing the team every week. We should just stich to a team and keep it that way but too late now.

Also the team looks like its coached horribly no motivation running sideways pretty much overpaid crap.

Also which dic..d cleared lyon? he looked paralysed from the moment he came on. Hes properbly injured for good now.

All up the team was crap from top to bottom and the borad must get the axe out starting from hazler.

I think Watmough has improved a hell of a lot from last season. He used to drop the ball or get penalised 3 times as much last season. Still he can improve that aspect of his game more.

Manly dont need a total rebuild. Theyve got a lot of talent atm and dont want to waste the next cple years. Just need to change some players in key positions. They lack class in key postions apart from fullback.

HB Orford- Crap. Give him the flick and if theres noone from the lower ranks to fill in immediately, just sign someone else. Theres at least 10 HBs better than him. Cant waste time rebuilding and nurturing someone when we could end up losing more talent soon eg Watmough.

Hooker Ballin- Dont want to knock the bloke but we need someone thats more treatening in attack. Cant just have a bloke making 30 tackles and passing from dummy half. Need someone who can make and create breaks.

5/8 Lyon- A decent centre with some defensive misreads but a poor 5/8. Scores more tries than creates them.

Hasler- The guy seems to be a bit lenient on the team when they lose and praise them too much when they win. Good coaches need to be overly critical on the team to get them to keep improving.

Short memories and scape goats...

Ballin is a f**king awesome attacking hooker, what can he do when the forwards are making 8 metres then getting driven back and held down in dominant tackles all game? The Storm line was fast and always set. Have half of you ever played footy before?

All Im saying is Ballin lacks playmaking at hooker. He can make the metres and tackles, but not try/linebreak assists like C.Smith, R.Farrar etc

Ballin is a stayer, 80 minute player and no need for interchange hooker, but I do think its time to follow the likes of the Eels and blood some youngsters in the Halves, certainly keep Foran at 5/8 but get a young half to build around.

I don’t think Ox is worth big money or a lengthy contract, just my thoughts

None of the eagles are to be frank:x

Don't come on here whining and whinging about Manly, by hiding behind the pretense of being a true supporter. The psychopathy of your behaviour just reinforces how desperate you are for attention.
I didn't know patients had use of the computers on the psych ward !
