It all comes back to them having no accountability from Mary.
I would argue Aitken and Lafai have both been terrible for 4-5 weeks.
Do they get dropped to ISP to refined some form, or course not.
I would personally love some of them to do a stint in ISP. Problem is I don't believe Mat Head is any better than McGregor so it's doubtful they'd learn much at all. Mary is paid to be their coach, not their mate. He may know about forward play but his ineffective coaching of the backs is diabolical. In a few interviews this year, players have come out and said he tells them "Just go out play your natural game" Says it all really. Even my C grade netball coach looks at our upcoming opponents and tells us who to target and builds a game plan. We're a pretty average team too.

Players like Aitken and Lafai Proberbly don't need to learn any new skills, God knows they won't from Head, but just the rocket of being dropped should be enough to make them realise they have to perform better.

I remember reading at the start of the year all the players saying what a great bloke Mary was, it did ring alarm bells. Now I'm not saying you have to fear your coach, but the fear of being dropped for a poor game is a great motivator, we don't have that.

We just don't have the depth in our forwards or backline. We have a heap of juniors in reserve grade who have not stepped up this year. We have quality forwards who are tired and busted - fancy playing an injured Vaughan and De Belin. Our backline is average at best so when players like Nightingale, Aitken and Dufty have a bad day, it is shut the gate, we have not hope.

LOL. Yeah, let's sack Kurt, he's been woeful all season and is by far our biggest liability:rolleyes:

He had a shit game, granted, but not of first grade standard amongst our back 5? seriously? Brain dead i'm telling ya's, brain dead!

Nene's out injured, Nighty is a myth from years gone by, Aitken up there with the worst defensive readers in the game, Lafai just can't seem to string 2 good matches together and Dufty requires at least another season under his belt before he starts to understand defensive positioning and learns how to be courageous, but yet, let's make Kurt the fall guy. How many of Mary's relatives are actually posting on this site?

Is there a medicinal cream available for that particular ailment?

No cream sufficed as she reckoned it was more than skin deep and was apparently related to performance anxiety that no amount of Viagra or rhino horn could touch.
She was a screamer behind the bar at the rugby club who could reduce a man to tears with a flick of her tongue. Ah those were the days.
Reckoned the only pusnutted softcock she ever saw only partially recover was a coach on the coast who went to assertiveness training, went on testosterone therapy, sacked half his backline and accidentally won a premiership FMD

She certainly had the boys' measure at the club!

I like Mann as a player and like Gus Gould, I believe his best position is five eight and so there lays the problem. He's never going to replace the Captain unless there's an injury, so he's become Mr Fixit for McDipshit coach.
Being shunted around in different positions & bench roles has falsely given the impression he's the master utility. He's really only Mary's plumber just plugging & filling holes because he doesn't trust or willing to utilise the youth.

The only way to step up is to be given a chance to step up. Give a guy 5 mins from the bench and then back to Reggie’s the next 4weeks does nothing for them. Hey need a good 25 mins week in week out for about 5 weeks and only then can you assess their ability to step up.

Played against a lot of Kurt Mann type players in nsw cup. Truth is sometimes they just aren't good enough. Look through the lower grades and you'll find plenty of mr fix its. Will Smith comes to mind. Sooner or later though they either need to reinvent themselves into a position or it's riding the bench and playing odd minutes here and there

He was pretty good for melbourne at Centre in 1st Grade. If the coach didn't constantly chop and change his role you would see consistency...playing him as a forward utility is ridiculous I. M.H.O.

I see your point for sure, but he's not good enough at centre to take anyone's spot and you probably think Lomax and Herbert are next in line. Mann makes a fist of it wherever he plays, but short of moving to the Titans or somewhere, bench is probably his spot

Agree to disagree...Bellamy had him at centre..thats good enough for me. I'd personally have him on the wing ....not utility.

I wouldnt say terrible but agree they have been down on form in the main as you point out. The lack of accountability has crept in from last year where down on form players are automatic selections. The difference being that now we have players in ISP that should be ready to go if McGregor had the foresight to take a few risks.

Drag could not agree more.
You would think that he would be able to pass on how to play centre and how to defend as a centre .
As he was a good one himself in his day.

True, but Bellamy let him go, and like the Broncos the Storm don't lose anyone they don't want to lose.

Not totally correct...when you have a squad that retains Smith/Slater and at the time Cronk...you will lose players...Have a look at the players they have lost over the last 3 years...there are some good players in that list.

Since 2010 when they got busted , it has been more of a transit lounge at the Storm with until recently Smith/Slater and cronk being the constant. Bellamy has the ability to take good players and make them very good under their systems eg Ado -Carr/Vuinavulu etc

If we are to persist with Mann, it must be at centre. Left centre to be precise, like where he was at the Storm. That gives us some speed out there.

Next years backline should be:

Dufty
Lomax
Aitken
Mann
Nene
Widdop
Hunt

Herbert (first back to come in).

We’ve persisted with Lafai long enough. Someone needs to make a call, no point carrying both he and Mann with our young backs coming through.
