Lets try this seriously.

1. Financial - 4/10
While there's not much money in the coffers, the club is financially backed by private owners who have demonstrated that they are willing to dig into their own pocket to fund the club.
2. Home ground - 3/10
Besides being a ground that home fans love, there's not a lot to like about it. However with future development plans on the table there is plenty of potential for improvement.
3. Management - 6/10
No worse than most current boards (just look at Parra) and appear to have made some tough decisions for the long term benefit of the club.
4. Crowd/membership - 6/10
Below average but not the worst. 2012 membership numbers are currently double what they were the same time last year. Some near capacity crowds in 2011 were offset by some monday night games in torrential rain early in the season.
5. Juniors - 8/10
With a large unflux in 2011 of former Toyota cup players as well as other local juniors (Watmough, King, Mauro) Manly have shown plenty despite a small junior catchment.
6. Longevity - 8/10
64 years, longer than most current clubs and only younger than Souths, Easts and Canterbury as clubs in their current form.

Comes to 35 by my calculations.

That's a fairly accurate assessment except for management, I'd give them a 2.

This would be an interesting exercise to conduct on all clubs.

Good idea. For Rockin Ronny's sake, let's start with the North Sydney Bears.

OK, SonofSam,
Here we go - for the Central Coast Bears:

CRITERIA
1. Financial - backing of John Singleton, his business associates and major corporates who have already already committed to supportingt the club
- 9/10;
2. Homeground - superb, modern day Gosford stadium - popular with fans and players - 9/10;
3. Management/Board - will be combination of astute business people who love rugby league - like John Singleton - with the ability to bring on and maintain significant financial backing - 9/10
4. Crowd/membership base. Already have over 7,000 signed and paying members even without an NRL licence. Huge fanbase from the central coast and north shore of Sydney - 9/10
5. Junior base. Huge - encompassing central coast and north shore of Sydney (plus numerous disaffected juniors in Manly area) - 10/10
6. Longevity - North Sydney Bears were establishment club - so 100 years+ - 10/10

Overall score for the Central Coast Bears: 56/60.
Result: automatic number 1 selection under the criteria.

You'd have to take at least a few marks off the longevity for the fact they are not an existing NRL club and haven't been for over 12 years.

Manly crowd 6/10? In their 50 odd years they have only had one decent above Sydney avg crowd.

Here we go for Perth in my biased view (well so is everyone else! :) )

1. Financial - already got a 7 figure major and numerous minor sponsors lined up, rumours of interest in part private ownership from a local multi millionaire 7/10
2. Homeground - nib getting $100mill spent on it this year taking it to a 22,500 high quality stadium 8/10
3. Management/Board - some good local businessmen on the bid committee and the WARL board has won a lot of friends in recent years - 7/10
4. Crowd/membership base. Sold out the ground this year pre game, strong membership culture in WA for sports teams - 7/10
5. Junior base. Small but has already produced more NRL 1st teamers than all the other affiliated states put together, good plans now bearing fruit through SG ball and Elite acadamy set up, suffer from not having pokie clubs giving us blood money - 5/10
6. Longevity - Bit hard for a new club! :) Didn;t fair well last attempt but different world this time around. N/A

They were a few hundred off ground capacity 3 times in 2011. I'd say that makes a 6/10 pretty reasonable. The game against Souths was a ground record with the new configuration.

It's 65 years BTW.
