Chris Mortimer was the toughest player I've ever seen. Not dirty, just tough. Peter Wallace is the closest equivalent currently playing.

As the story goes, Chris was desperate to play in the semi-final to lead his young teammates. When the doctor refused to clear him to play, Chris turned surgeon to remove the pin holding his broken thumb together.

Newspaper reports at the time quoted his brother Steve describing the events.

‘‘He had a steel pin in there, and it started protruding,’’ Steve confirmed.

‘‘Chris went to the doctor, who told him he’d fix it up but he couldn’t play in the semi. So Chris got a pair of pliers from the groundkeeper’s office, pulled it out, bandaged his arm and played.’’

Such courage and commitment from a senior player has an amazing effect on the psychology of a football club. It certainly left its mark on the young players at the club.

How in God's name did this thread get resurrected at all ?

Discussion in 'NRL' started by OVP, Sep 24, 2003.

If you click on the link to the oldest threads in the forum
http://forums.leagueunlimited.com/forums/nrl.71/page-1702
it only goes back to Jan 2005. And when you click on each thread on that page, there is nothing in there. No posts at all.
When you search, all searches only go back to 2005

So how the hell did you get a thread from 2003 to appear, and intact as well ??
Pure magic my friend ;).

Bob O'Reilly. Played prop for 15 years and 284 games in the toughest eras.

Billy Smith. Hit like a prop and tackled his arse off. Tough bastard.

Brendan Tuuta. Mad as a cut snake. Used to hit the line with everything he had, every time. Was a cult hero at Campbelltown.

Ron Gibbs. Another Campbo cult hero. Would come onto the ground, vomit on the sidelines then try to kill someone on the field.

Ben Te'o. hahahahahahaha

I remember when Haumono put Dan Stains of the Sharks to sleep with a couple of punches when he was playing for the Sea Eagles at Brookie.

Strange thing is that Stains had a black belt in karate but Haumono's father was the heavyweight champion of Tonga. A bit of pedigree there.

Add Nigel Plum too. Known that he could not take painkillers either. I can remember his doing his shoulder, then using that shoulder to bring down a much bigger player.

Bit of a joke post really.

A mate of mine, Richard Robert Walker aka Dick Bob, who played in the St George junior comp in the early 1980s.

Broke both arms twice each in two seasons, outdoing Mal Meninga.

The most accident/injury prone person ever. We were surfing at Perigan Beach on the Sunshine Coast when he wiped out. His board flipped over and he fell on top of it. A fin penetrated his left calf muscle, sliding in between his tibia and fibula almost coming out the other side. Ouch!

Plus numerous other acts of stupidity resulting in injury.

Did each of those players get a bowl of milk at half time?

Haumono out loses his spot after his Mum ran on the field after he was KO'ed at Belmore against Penrith. Much public transport destroyed that night.... Campion to 11 and Chris Mortimer on the bench & you could take that side to war.
