The Black Caps just got thumped after conceding 364 and being bowled out for 217.

The non-performances of Corey Anderson are starting to stand out, his 10 overs went for 96, hasn't done anything in a while now.

Starting to wonder if he was just a flash in the pan.

I'm liking the looks of Pakistan leading into the World Cup. Good strong leadership, a settled line up and a couple of their guns firing. They're probably a really quick fast man short.

As for Corey, two things - no one with a name called Corey should be allowed to have success.

Secondly, the guy who he took the fastest one day hundred record off is still smashing them around nearly 20 years later. I'm not sure if Corey  will be doing the same thing.

Expectations too high on Anderson, and Neesham more talented anyway...

Still, Anderson >>> The Big Show... and despite the sycophantic nonsense from the Ch 9 boys, I'll back Anderson to hit a bigger ball than Marsh, every day of the week

Neither Anderson or Neesham have overly impressed me recently. When you add N McCullum and Vettori to the mix I fear we're going to go heavy on All Rounders and leave ourselves short on quality bowlers for the WC.

Still, Anderson averages high 30's in ODI's with the bat and under 30 with ball. That's hard to ignore even if he's struggling at the moment.

The concern is his economy rate which is comfortably over 6 an over (Neesham likewise)

I wouldn't look too deeply into that batting average, he clubbed a lot of good runs very early but has been pretty quiet since.

I don't think there is room for both Anderson and Neesham, someone has to miss out there.

I suspect that's what they're doing - the team is different each time, the young quicks are doing well, and with Mills breaking down he might find it hard to make the team (although, if fit he'd be the first pace bowler I'd pick for an ODI).

Lots of competition, which can only be good - only Williamson, McCullum B (as an opener, I trust), Taylor, Ronchi and Southee would seem locks in the best XI at the moment... possibly Guptill too, and for me Vetorri and Mills...

A lot will depend on our top 4 at the end of the day - I think the bowlers will be fine, just whether McCullum, Guptill, Williamson and Taylor can deliver

But would you say Neesham has all the toys? Or just some of them?

I like what they're doing with Milne, he's shaping up really well - consistently at 150kph, and even with his 135kph slower balls, his average speed was 149....

Milne needs to be there come world cup time, which means someone worthy misses out.
Actually there is going to be a lot of that.

Yep - our pace bowlers in any form are pretty exciting at the moment - Southee, Boult, Mills, McGlenaghan, Milne, Henry, Mills, Wagner and Bracewell...

Obviously the latter 2 won't be at the WC, but it's pretty good imo

I agree, but at the same time, to still have that batting average despite being quiet shows how good his runs were early on. That ability doesn't disappear and I'm happy to persevere with him, especially as I think he's better suited to the lower pitches in NZ for his bowling and also smaller grounds for his batting.

Neesham misses out for me.

McClenaghan, Southee, Boult, Milne for the bowlers. I really like Henry, but it's not his time quite yet.

Mills is quality if you need someone to tie up an end, but it seems like Southee has become that guy but with an extra yard of pace.

For once we have variety, I'd avoid having two similar style bowlers and run with one spearhead, one left armer, one genuine speedster and one spinner to go with 5 batsman, one all-rounder and one keeper

I'd pick Southee, Boult, Milne and Vettori

Big Mitch is hard to ignore... the good news is, they could go Mills, McGlenahan, Henry and McCullum and still have a good attack...

Unlike some of the quicks, MCullum will be in the side, but Vetorri will be (surely) the 1st spinner picked

The selection for the world cup with be very interesting. I would definitely go with McClenaghan in the squad. The guy has an outstanding ODI record so far and deserves a spot in the team. Vettori has to be the number one spinner, during his career he has shown he can take wickets and be economical in ODI cricket. Also, I don't rate Nathan McCullum. The guy averages 48 with the ball in ODI cricket and in modern cricket wicket takers are required in the middle stages of an innings. I consider him more of an allrounder than a specialist spinner. I am not sure about Boult being in the squad. I think the guy is an outstanding bowler in test cricket, however he hasn't proved himself in List A and ODI cricket. I don't think he deserves to be in the squad ahead of Henry and McClenaghan who have bowled well in this series. My picks would be Henry, McClenaghan, Southee and Vettori. Toss up between Mills/Milne and Boult.

Surely, you only include Anderson or Neesham in the 15 man squad. And currently, Anderson has the edge- and he would be the last bloke picked in my XV.

I don't like all rounders when that means you're all round mediocre, across all disciplines.

This is the 15-man squad I would be working towards picking for the World Cup at the moment-
Brendan McCullum (c)
Kane Williamson (vc)
Corey Anderson (as I said, he was the last guy I picked)
Trent Boult
Martin Guptill (not sold on him- interested in the possibilities of Brownlie and Devich)
Matt Henry
Tom Latham
Mitchell McClenaghan
Nathan McCullum
Kyle Mills
Adam Milne
Luke Ronchi
Tim Southee
Ross Taylor
Daniel Vettori
