NRL will not force clubs to release players for Denver Test

Yeah I know how the hell are they supposed to recover from sitting down for a day to play 2 days later? That's much rougher than playing for your NRL side on Saturday after playing for Australia or NZ the night before in the ANZAC Test like what happened for 15 years.

Apparently players say it is easier to play sooner when backing up. Who knows maybe 16 hours in a plane is fine. The players that want to play will still play anyway. They will then use that to shut the clubs up next year

When it is the same day it is easier but one or two days is plenty of time to get very stiff and sore. I play Saturdays and Sundays and I know its not NRL intensity but we don't have NRL conditioning or recovery either.

16 hours in a plane is fine to play 2 days later especially when compared to a test or origin match.

What do people think happens on planes exactly? Hasn't the injury risk myth been thoroughly debunked? Are we really gonna play the "Rugby League is tougher" card and claim something that other sports do week in week out is impossible?

The Denver game is on a Saturday. The next NRL game for most players will be 6-8 days later.
If they have to sit out a game on Thursday so be it - this is standard practice for Origin and the Warriors have for years benefited from having no Origin players.

Geez clearly you've never been on a plane ride before. The altitude compresses your body and you can hardly breathe for 16 hours, you come out feeling like you've been through a meat grinder. Everyone knows it's one of the toughest things one can experience and you need at least a week's recovery to even think about physical activity again let alone an NRL match after 2 days!!

There also playing the test in Denver at altitude 2 days then flying for 16 hours. It’s not ideal and shows why there has been some lack of planning in putting the test together

Wasn’t the whole ‘altitude’ thing disproven as total bollocks by medical experts?

I really would love to see the NRL just pause for June. But that'll never happen. They'll just knife every event that dares intrude on suburban club games, while bending so far backwards for Origin that their heads are up their own arses.

That would be a good thing for origin. The NRL having 4 weeks off would be good for the NRL, SOO and the international game. No one loses out.

The ferals would whine about 4 weeks off giving a free kick to the other suburban bogan sport.

It's so easy to fill 4 weeks of top quality rep content too.
Quick basic example for southern hemisphere..

Friday Saturday Sunday
W1 NZlvEng TonVSam PNGvFij SOO1
W2 TonVSam USAvPNG SOO2
W3 NZlvTon USAvFij
W4 NZlvSam PNGvFij SOO3

That has to be about the dumbest argument that is actually given oxygen. I feel like ranting about how stupid it is but it's kind of pointless.

I'm sure the period with wall to wall SOO coverage and international games would give a free kick to our rivals. It's not like that's the time the NRL dominates the media the most.

If we have 3 weeks off every mid-season then we can have a full Pacific Cup and a full Baskerville Shield every year, leaving post-season internationals to more inclusive tournaments.

W1 - NSW v QLD, NZ v Eng, Ton v Fij, PNG v Sam
W2 - NSW v QLD, NZ v Eng, Ton v Sam, PNG v Fij
W3 - NSW v QLD, NZ v Eng, Ton v PNG, Sam v Fij

Much better and more interesting than the half-assed split rounds we have now.

As an aside, do any AFL supporters have a cry about the 3 extra weeks NRL has at the start of the year?
