Newcastle Knights under 20’s coach Michael Crawley has named an 18-man team ahead of Monday night’s home game against the Wests Tigers.
“Our squad of predominately local boys is very strong and we have chased a bit of size during the pre-season,” Crawley said.
“We have about 20 boys who have stayed from last year’s squad and are going to be better for last year’s experience.
“We have also added a group of 16 players to the squad who have come in as young players who will learn for next season.”
Adam Clydsdale who trained with the first grade side during the pre-season, along with Ben Roose and Pat Mata’utia, will captain the side for the first time on Monday night.

Thank f**k that's over.

22 errors by us. This team would make the raiders look like world beaters.

Why is Clydesdale playing half today... Thought he was our next big thing and was set to take bedsys spot

danny Levi is an exceptional hooker with a big future, only 17 yrs old, was playing halfback for us but he's a hooker with really good skill and defence and will be developed as our full time nyc hooker just like clydsdale has been.

clydsdale has been playing the playmaker role nearly all year, doing alot of the kicking and playing on the last. plus our halves havent exactly been performing well with tom rouse out who is back this week so clydsdale has been given more responsibility.

clydsdale is defintely still "the next big thing" and will share the hooking role next year with gidley, it just seems to be whats best for the nyc side and the development of levi right now.

Interesting that Sione Mata'utia got a run (and a try) today, bloke would Be just about the youngest bloke running around in that comp considering he was still playing Harold Mats last year

Any chance we could sticky a 2014 NYC thread? We actually have a team worth talking about this year

This is something I am really interested in. Can anyone be bothered giving us a run down? From what I can gather from match reports we have a lot of mobile backrowers and a very capable scoring back line.

Team named this week
1.Jake Mamo-gun fullback, form player in the NYC comp IMO
2.Bryce Donovan-goal kicking winger, SG Ball graduate
3.Sione Mata'utia-17 year old who is still SG Ball eligible but is arguably the top centre in NYC. Australian schoolboys captain in 2013
4.Chance Peni-Centre from WA
5.Josh Birch-SG Ball graduate, Australian schoolboys rep at under 15's level
6.Sam Keenan-kid plucked from Newcastle local comp
7.Jaelen Feeney-Qld born halfback who was a shrewd pick up from the bulldogs in the off season
8.Jae Pakau-prop from Keebra Park
9.Daniel Levi-creative hooker was a NZ under 18 rep last year and is the captain of the side despite being one of the youngest in the team, built like a tank (177cm, 95kg)
10.Luke Yates-A NSW rep at under 16 and 18 level, more suited to lock but pretty good at prop aswell, solid player with subtle ball skills and does all the little things right
11.Joe Tapine-straight out beast, runs great lines and is pretty much unstoppable 10m out, has scored 5 tries in 3 games this season and all of them have been pretty getting the ball 10m out and dragging 4 or 5 blokes over the line with him.
12.Harry Pondekas-backrower who was signed late from the broncos and has been quite good
13.Lachlan Fitzgibbon-local kid who's abit of a Billy Peden type Mr Fix it in the pack

14.Nathan Lo Monoco-impact bench hooker, lightly built
15.Bradie Smith-bench prop
16.Tuiala Togiatasi-big bench prop from the roosters
17.Pride Petterson Robati-classy backrower signed from the storm 2 weeks ago, was their NYC player of the year last year despite playing a year up, signed by the storm as a 14 year old out of Wellington

Said it last year, Levi was developing extremely well into our #1 hooker and now he's captain and probably the best hooker in the comp. Skillful and tough.

Jaelen Feeney plays like a first grader in that level but wouldn't be good enough for actual first grade yet, he's got a cool head and controls the team nicely, good kicker too.

Pakau has probably been our best prop since Korbin left, he's consistent and a hard runner with a good motor for a big guy.

Yates and Fitzgibbon are good old local boys who don't stop working and put up huge numbers especially in defense.

Throw in Pondekas who was one of the Broncos best forwards, Patterson-Robati Melbourne's best forward and Joe Tapine by far our best forward and the best forward in the comp, it's a gun pack.

Then Jake Mamo and Sione who are obvious stars and can play first grade at any moment.

Birch is a a big talent also, I have no doubt he'll play first grade soon with the other 2 backs.

Jacob Gagai will be back soon too.

Feeney was a great signing, an experienced half who steers the side around. Pondekas is a guy who's really surprised me, shocked the broncos let him go

I reckon Lachlan Fitzgibbon looks the goods. I like that he's a good worker but also has attacking ability. Big and hard to bring down.

All of our backrowers are athletically gifted and good with ball-in hand.

Definitely most excited about Tapine, though. Has to play FG this year, surely
