Sydney Roosters Statement

Sydney Roosters CEO, Mr John Lee, confirmed that a Club employee is suspended. This is following the receipt of a notice from the NRL.

Mr Lee indicated that the employee will be afforded procedural fairness while this matter is being dealt with. He also stated that the matter is subject to an appeal process.

The Club will be making no further comment at this time.

Oh that's nice, our club which is constantly under attack about our cap from opposition fans doesn't want to make further comment about the suspension of our recruitment manager who has been involved previously in cheating the cap.

Really eases the fans' concerns.

The Sydney Roosters have suspended recruitment manager Peter O'Sullivan after the NRL advised the club it is investigating whether he is a fit and proper person for registration.

O'Sullivan is considered one of the best talent spotters in the game, having unearthed a slew of superstars including Greg Inglis and Israel Folau.

The Roosters have released the following statement: "Sydney Roosters CEO, Mr John Lee, confirmed that a Club employee is suspended. This is following the receipt of a notice from the NRL.

"Mr Lee indicated that the employee will be afforded procedural fairness while this matter is being dealt with. He also stated that the matter is subject to an appeal process.

"The Club will be making no further comment at this time."

In a statement the NRL said on Friday that O'Sullivan has been issued with a Notice of Intention to Cancel his Registration.

The spokesman said the proposal to cancel his registration related to alleged breaches of the NRL Rules.

O'Sullivan has been given the opportunity to respond to the Notice and the NRL will make no further comment at this time.

O'Sullivan worked at the Melbourne Storm during the salary cap scandal, but escaped any sanction from the club and the NRL.

Former NRL chief executive David Gallop admitted it was only legal advice which prevented the governing body recommending O'Sullivan being sacked from the Roosters where he was working in 2011.

The NRL's former salary cap auditor Ian Schubert uncovered evidence that O'Sullivan failed to disclose third-party payments in player contracts. He was also found to have "deliberately concealed" the real amount paid to at least two players.

O'Sullivan has uncovered some of the brightest talents in recent years and was instrumental in the Roosters luring NRL Rookie of the Year candidate Latrell Mitchell to the club.
